BOBCATS VISIT THE BEARS
The Quinnipiac women's rugby team returns to action this weekend on Saturday, October 10. The Bobcats will travel to Marvel Field in Providence, Rhode Island for an 11 a.m. matchup with the Brown University Bears.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Quinnipiac is 1-0 all-time against Brown, taking down the Bears last season, 46-20 in the ACRA national quarterfinal. Brown entered the contest with an undefeated 9-0 record before falling to QU. Current Bobcat Rebecca Haight led the team with two tries while junior Christie Albers also scored.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Brown enters the contest with a 3-1 overall record and 2-1 in the Ivy League. The Bears started the season with huge wins over Navy (36-5), Cornell (70-0) and Harvard (44-17) before falling to Dartmouth, 8-5. Quinnipiac defeated Dartmouth earlier this season, 43-5, at the QU Rugby Field.
LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, the Bobcats improved to 2-0 in Hamden with a 19-5 victory over Life University. Quinnipiac's defense stopped the Running Eagles multiple times from scoring inside five yards before Life was finally able to capture a try with time running out.
MYLES AHEAD OF THE COMPETITION
Against Life, Maggie Myles contributed on all three of Quinnipiac's scores. Myles recorded two tries for ten points while also adding a beautiful assist in the victory. The junior now has five tries on the season.
THAT'S A TURKEY
The Bobcats are currently riding a three-game winning streak heading into the contest against Brown. After falling to Army on September 9, Quinnipiac has captured wins over Dartmouth, Norwich and Life.
TRANSFERING A WIN
Former Cadet Ilona Maher came up huge in the Bobcats win against Norwich. Maher scored two tries and added four runs over twenty. The sophomore tallied back-to-back scores on multiple 40 yard runs in the second half to help the team pull away. In addition, she registered a team high five tackles in the win.
TACKLING THE CADETS
Against Norwich, the Bobcats had five players who recorded at least four tackles in the game. Freshman Emily Roskopf and sophomores Jessica Maricich and Flora Poole each tallied four tackles while Maher and Myles recorded five apiece.
THREE WISE ASSISTS
In the win over Norwich, junior full back Lindey Wise tallied three assists. The junior tranisitioned from her normal postion to a fly half for the game and provided helpers on three of the Bobcats' eight tries. Wise also added one tackle and a run over twenty.
FIRST TRY
Sophomores Karee Helgerson and Flora Poole each recorded their first career try against Dartmouth. Helgerson gave the Bobcats a 36-5 score by punching through the Big Green defense in the second half. Poole tallied her first career try with a 30 yard run for the final QU score of the day.
ROSKOPF'S MODERN LIFE
Emily Roskopf (Pleasanton, California) has gotten off to a torrid start in her collegiate career, scoring ten tries through her first four games to lead the team. Roskopf also leads the team in points with 50 off of her 10 scores. The freshman has scored at least two tries in every game so far this season. Roskopf tallied three tries in two games this year, at Notre Dame College in the season opener and in the home contest against Dartmouth.
HOME OPENER ADVANTAGE
In each of the Quinnipiac women's rugby team's first four seasons, the Bobcats have won their home opener at the QU Rugby Field. In home openers, the Bobcats are outscoring opponents 203-36 in four games leading up to the matchup with the Big Green. The Bobcats are 13-4-1 all-time when playing at the QU Rugby Field, including an impressive 6-2 in the last two seasons.
I COULD WALK 500 MYLES
The Bobcats have been anchored on the defensive side of the ball by Maggie Myles(Emmitsburg, Maryland) as she is among the team leaders in tackles through four games. She tallied 13 tackles in the first two games. Against Army West Point, Myles was second on the team with eight solo tackles in the loss while also scoring her first try of the season for the Bobcats.
WISE WORDS
Myles and Roskopf weren't the only ones scoring for the Bobcats against the Black Knights as Lindey Wise (Franklin, Wisconsin) scored her first try of the season and third of her career. Wise had scored two trys as a sophomore last season before tallying her first as a junior.
LINED UP
One facet of the game the Bobcats have dominated this season is in lineouts, as the Bobcats held a distinctive 21-4 advantage through two games against The College of Notre Dame in Ohio and Army West Point. In the season opener against The College of Notre Dame, Quinnipiac held the advantage of lineouts at 13-2. Against Norwich the Bobcats edged the Cadets with 10 lineouts to the opposition's four.

Ilona Maher (Burlington, Vermont) and Karee Helgerson (Portland, Oregon) were dominant on the defensive side of the ball at Army West Point on Saturday, Sept. 12 as each player recorded nine solo tackles in the victory. In addition to Maher's defensive efforts, she recorded her fourth assist of the season with one against the Black Knights to claim the team lead through two games.
NEW FOUNDATIONS
This season marks a new conference for the Quinnipiac women's rugby team as they are one of eight programs to be founding members of the National Collegiate Varsity Women's Rugby Association (NCVWRA). Quinnipiac joins Army West Point, Bowdoin, Brown, Central Washington, Harvard, Norwich and West Chester as founding members. The conference is focused on growing the sport of women's rugby and is open to all NCAA schools at any level that sponsor women's rugby at the varsity level.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Bobcats return to Hamden next weekend when they welcome the Central Washington Wildcats. Quinnipiac will host CWU on Sunday, October 18 at 12 p.m. from the QU Rugby Field. Last season, the Wildcats squeaked out a 22-17 victory over the Bobcats in Ellensburg, Washington.
