West Hartford, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University Bobcats fell to the University of Hartford Hawks on Sunday by a score of 3-0. In this away non-conference match, the Bobcats lost in three sets to the Hawks 25-15, 25-21, and 25-16.
With the win the Hawks improve to 10-7 on the season while the Bobcats fall to 2-13.
In the first set, the Bobcats would jump out to an early 7-4 lead but the Hawks would finish the set with an impressive 21-8 run to take the first set. The second set saw a lot of back and forth between the two teams with the Bobcats battling back to tie the game at 20-20. With four straight points, the Hawks would dig a hole that Quinnipiac just could not overcome.
Sophomore Allison Leigh (Palmer, Alaska) had a very strong performance leading the Bobcats in three different categories for the match. Leigh led Quinnipiac with eight kills, six blocks, and in hitting percentage with a .263 kill percentage. This past week Leigh has had her two best kill performances of the year with this being her second highest total after the Fairleigh Dickinson game on Wednesday where she had 16 kills.
Fellow sophomore Cody Michaels (Versailles, Kentucky) had another strong game tying for the most assists with nine while also adding four digs. Michaels also had one of the team's two service aces in the match.
Today was another strong showing for the freshman Bobcats. Nicole Milillo had nine assists in the game while also leading the team defensively with six digs. Over the past week Milillo had 17 assists and 18 digs. Elizabeth Kloos (Munster, Ind.) was second on team with five kills in the match.
The Bobcats return home next weekend with two conference matchups. On Saturday, Oct. 4 the Bobcats will take on Marist at 1 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 5 Quinnipiac will wrap up the weekend with another conference matchup against Siena at 1 p.m. The Bobcats will look to rebound as they get into the heart of their conference schedule but will look to utilize the home court advantage that Burt Kahn Court provides.
