
QU Women's Volleyball Takes on Iona at 11 A.M. on Fri. Nov. 21

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. - The Quinnipiac Bobcats will take on the Iona Gaels on the second day of the MAAC Volleyball Tournament. The winner of this match will continue on in the tournament playing the Niagara Purple Eagles at 2 p.m. later in the day. However, this will be the last game of the 2014 season for the losing team.
After falling to the Canisius Golden Griffins on Thursday afternoon by the score of 3-1, the Bobcats will look to continue their 2014 season against Iona. The last time these two teams squared off was on Nov. 9 when the Gaels won at home by the score of 3-0. Iona had a busy first day of the tournament beating Saint Peter's in the first game, but falling to Marist in the night cap in a five set heartbreaker. It's time to see which team will step up and advance in the tournament and which team will take the court for the final time in 2014.
TENacious Attack
Both Tierra Allen (Sumter, S.C.) and Cheyenne Orsi (Bristol, Conn.) had an impressive first day in the tournament. Both players had 10 kills in the match with Allen adding three blocks and Orsi adding five blocks in the effort against Canisius.
Last Hoorah
This tournament marks the final games for the class of 2015. This year the Bobcats will celebrate the accomplishments of their three seniors; Brittanie Robinson, Tanner Celestin, and Tierra Allen. Robinson (Fresno, Calif.), who is working toward a degree in Health Sciences, had a fine career in for the Bobcats with 287 kills, 683 assists, 484 digs, 103 blocks, and 38 service aces. Entering her final game Tanner Celestin (Norco, Calif.), an English major, has accumulated 454 kills, 314 digs, 62 blocks, and 50 service aces over her four years at Quinnipiac. The last senior, Tierra Allen (Sumter, S.C) a Public Relations major, also had a great career for the Bobcats accumulating 300 kills, 130 digs, 40 blocks, and 14 service aces.
GMC Sierra: All-Terrain Player
Freshman Sierra Dawson (Larkspur, Calif.) has been a versatile player all season for the Quinnipiac Bobcats. This season Dawson leads the team with 647 assists while also adding 136 digs, 51 kills, 46 blocks, and 13 service aces. She is currently fourth on the team in digs and blocks while being fifth on the team in service aces. Dawson is currently second in the conference among all freshman with assists and assists per set.
MAAC n' Lead
The Bobcats have a few players that are in the top ten of different MAAC statistical categories. For hitting percentage, freshman Cheyenne Orsi (Bristol, Conn.) ranks sixth in the conference in hitting percentage with a .281% and currently ranks second among all freshman in the conference for hitting percentage. Sierra Dawson ranks tenth in the conference in assists per set, and like Orsi is second among all-conference freshman for assists. For service aces the Bobcats have two representatives. Sophomore Katie Urycki (Chesterton, Ind.) and freshman Nicole Milillo (Lynbrook, N.Y.) have put together great seasons from the service line. Urycki is fourth in the conference with .35 service aces per set while Milillo is seventh in the conference with a .32 service aces per set. However, Milillo is second in the conference among all freshman for service aces. For blocking, the Bobcats also have two representatives in the top ten with Allison Leigh and Cheyenne Orsi. Leigh is second in the conference with 108 total blocks and 1.23 blocks per set. Orsi is ninth in the conference, but second among all freshman, with .93 blocks per set and 51 blocks on the season.
