Hamden, Conn. – After a hard fought battle on the court, the Quinnipiac Bobcats ultimately fell to the Fairfield Stags by the score of 3-1 on Saturday. After winning the second set by the score of 25-17, the Bobcats were unable to use the momentum from that set win and fell in the next two sets by the scores of 25-14 and 25-15. With the loss the Bobcats lose the season series to the Stags after dropping their first match against Fairfield on Sept. 27th.
Sophomore Allison Leigh (Palmer, Alaska) turned in one of her finest performances of the season leading the team in kills, blocks, and hitting percentage. With 15 kills in the match, this is most kills Leigh has had in one match since the Bobcats win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Sept. 24th when she had 16. Leigh showed tremendous accuracy with a great .345 hitting percentage while adding a team high five blocks. She currently leads the team with 112 blocks and a 1.23 blocks per and is currently one of the best blockers in MAAC as she currently ranks second in blocks for the conference.
Another sophomore Cody Michaels (Versailles, Ky.) turned in a great defensive performance leading the team with 17 digs. Over her past two games Michaels has combined for 38 digs and currently leads the team averaging 3.25 digs per set.
The freshman class had another big day for the Quinnipiac volleyball program. Cheyenne Orsi (Bristol, Conn.) continues her recent hot streak finishing second on the team only to Leigh in both blocks and kills. Today against Fairfield, Orsi and Leigh formed a formidable tandem around the net with Orsi adding another nine kills and three blocks for the Bobcats. Over her past five games, Orsi is averaging 8.4 kills and 2.8 blocks per game.
Freshman Sierra Dawson (Larkspur, Calif.) had another great game as the Bobcats' setter. Once again Dawson led the Bobcats with 27 assists and now has a three game streak of at least 25 assists in a match. With 7.92 assists per set this season, Dawson has been a great setter for the Bobcats, but today once again proved that she is also a very versatile player. Dawson finished second on the team with 12 digs and was just as big of a factor on defensive as she was setting up the Quinnipiac offensive attack.
The Quinnipiac Bobcats will be back in action next weekend as they enter the home stretch of the MAAC schedule. On Saturday Nov. 8th, the Bobcats will play at 1 p.m. as they take on the Manhattan Jaspers. The following day the Bobcats return to court for another 1 p.m. game this time against the Iona Gaels in another big road game. The following weekend the Bobcats will be home to wrap up the 2014 regular season with two more MAAC contests including Quinnipiac's senior day for volleyball.
