BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac women's volleyball team dropped their second match of the weekend, falling to Canisius on Sunday by the score of 3-0. With the loss the Bobcats fall to 0-10 in MAAC play while the Golden Griffins improve to 5-4 in conference play.
Sophomore Allison Leigh (Palmer, Alaska), had another fine performance for the Bobcats. Leigh continued to be a dominant presence around the net with six kills and two blocks in today's game. Currently, Leigh is one of the best blockers in the MAAC as she is third in the conference with blocks per set with 1.13. Not only was she a presence around the net today, but also added a service ace in the match tallying three service aces for the weekend, a team-high.
It was a big day for freshman Elizabeth Kloos (Muster, Ind.). Kloos lead the Bobcats in kills with seven in the game. Kloos also provided a strong presence around the net leading Quinninpiac with five blocks. This marks the first time that Kloos has had five blocks since Oct. 4th against Marist when she added five blocks in that match.
Freshman Sierra Dawson (Larkspur, Calif.) led the Bobcats once again in assists with 20, which now brings her streak of consecutive 20 plus assists in a match to an impressive 11 games. Dawson had a combined 42 assists over the weekend has been a vital piece to the Bobcats' attack.
Katie Urycki, a sophomore from (Chesterton, Ind.) had a very good all-around performance for Quinnipiac against the Golden Griffins. With another service ace in the match today, Urycki continues to be one of the best servers in the MAAC with now 26 service aces this season and currently is second in the conference in both services aces and service aces per set. She also chipped in six kills while adding two blocks to finish off her impressive all-around game.
Sophomore Cody Michaels (Versailles, Ky.) played great defense for the Bobcats against Canisius as she led the team with 12 digs. Over her last seven games, Michaels has posted 10-plus digs in five of those matches.
The Bobcats return action on Wednesday Oct. 22nd in a road matchup against Marist at 7 p.m. Then on Saturday and Sunday, the Bobcats return home to Burt Kahn Court for two MAAC matchups. On Saturday the Bobcats take on Saint Peter's at 6:00 p.m. in what promises to be an entertaining night match.
Sunday is an important match for the Bobcats as it is the annual Dig Pink Game which will take place at 1 p.m. against Rider. The Dig Pink Game will be a fundraising event for Breast Cancer Awareness and Quinnipiac has some special plans for the game for those who come out and support the Bobcats.
