
Women's Tennis Earns Top Seed In NEC Tournament

HAMDEN, Conn. The four-time defending Northeast Conference Champion Quinnipiac women's tennis team will enter the 2008 NEC Championships as the top seed, the conference office announced Monday. The Bobcats will face the winner of eighth-seeded Robert Morris and No. 9 Saint Francis (Pa.) in the quarterfinals, not before 2 p.m. on Friday, April 18. All matches will be played at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J.
The tournament format calls for the first and quarterfinal rounds to be played on April 18, followed by the semifinals, April 19, and finals, April 20. For the fifth consecutive year, Quinnipiac enters the tournament as the top seed while Long Island is slated second. The Blackbirds will play the winner between No. 7 Wagner and No. 10 St. Francis (N.Y.). Fairleigh Dickinson takes the No. 3 seed, and will clash with No. 6 Monmouth. No. 4 Sacred Heart and No. 5 Mount St. Mary's round out the field.
The Bobcats get a final tune-up for the tournament when they play Stony Brook, Tuesday on Long Island. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
