
Women's Tennis Beats Fairleigh Dickinson, 6-1

HAMDEN, Conn. Sophomore Mary Wilson (Greensburg, Pa.) headlined five Quinnipiac double-winners as the Bobcats defeated conference foe Fairleigh Dickinson, 6-1, Saturday afternoon. Wilson won convincingly against reigning NEC Player and Rookie of the Year, Julija Korshunova, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 singles. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 4-5 (1-0 NEC), while the Knights drop to 6-5 (0-1 NEC).
"FDU has a very solid team, which makes me very proud of my women for their determined play in our first NEC match," said Quinnipiac head coach Mike Quitko.
Wilson, Jackie Herb (Cherry Hill, N.J.), Adrienne Markison (Princeton, N.J.), Lisanne Steinert (Glauchau, Germany) and Nicole Adams (West Windsor, N.Y.) were all double-winners. Prior to her singles triumph against Korshunova, Wilson paired with Markison to defeat Korshunova and Dzana Ferhatbegovic, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles. Markison also made quick work of Ferhatbegovic, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 singles.
Herb and Amanda Petruzzi (Bradenton, Fla.) paired to defeat Ksenia Chernyshova and Jessica DeCarlos, 8-2, at No. 2 doubles. Herb then defeated Chernyshova, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 2 singles. Steinert and Adams paired to defeat Jinny DeCarlos and Christina Martine, 8-5, at No. 3 doubles. Steinert then took care of Jinny DeCarlos, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5 singles and Adams got by Sarah Delliere, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 6 singles.
The Bobcats return to action tomorrow, when they play host to Hofstra. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
