John Opie joined the Quinnipiac Athletics staff as Assistant AD for Marketing & Fan Engagement in May of 2024.
Opie has been serving many different game-day operations/marketing roles at Quinnipiac since February of 2014.
He has assisted with game day operations for M&T Bank Arena events during that time span, has served as an ESPN+ camera operator, served as a liaison between staff and ushers, and operated in-arena music during events. Some of Opie’s game-day duties include, but are not limited to show-calling, creating game scripts, communicating with ANC/ESPN/public address/pep band/official scorers/marking staff.
Opie has also served as an ice resurfacer/zamboni driver/ operations assistant at Total Mortgage Arena since 2019 – working with the Bridgeport Islanders/Sound Tigers (AHL), Sacred Heart University, and the 2019 and 2021 NCAA Connecticut Cup. He has also worked a similar role with Northford Ice Pavilion since 2012.
He also has experience serving as Director of Hockey Operations/Social Media Specialist for the National Girls Hockey League from 2019-2021, and also served an Equipment Assistant/Hockey Operations role with USA Women’s National Hockey Team in 2017/2019/2020. Opie gained further Hockey Operations/Marking/Social Media experience with the Connecticut Whale (2016-17) and served a Marketing/Promotions role for the Harford Wolfpack of the AHL (2018-19). In the Spring of 2024, he had the opportunity to work with USA Hockey and the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) in various game/event capacities during the 2024 Women’s Worlds Ice Hockey Tournament.
Opie graduated from Quinnipiac University with a Bachelor’s in Health Science & Psychology in 2019. He earned his Master’s in Business Administration & Management, with a concentration in Sports Management in 2021.
