Quinnipiac women's volleyball head coach Kyle Robinson announced the hiring of Ana Moreira Pego as an assistant coach ahead of the 2025 season. Pego will enter her second season with the Bobcats in 2026.
In her first season with the Bobcats in 2025, Pego helped guide Quinnipiac to a 19-12 overall record and a 16-2 mark in MAAC play. The Bobcats earned the No. 2 seed in the MAAC Championship and advanced to the conference semifinals. Under the leadership of the Quinnipiac coaching staff, Damla Gunes earned MAAC Setter of the Year honors for the third consecutive season, while multiple student-athletes earned All-MAAC recognition and MAAC All-Academic Team honors. In May 2025, Pego was selected to participate in the 54th NCAA Women Coaches Academy, a nationally recognized leadership development program for collegiate coaches.
Pego joined Quinnipiac after serving as the head volleyball coach at the University of New Haven for two seasons. Under her leadership, the Chargers made back-to-back NCAA Division II Tournament appearances in 2023 and 2024 and secured two consecutive NE10 Conference Championships.
In 2023, Pego led the Chargers to their first NE10 Conference Championship since the 2017 season after previously securing an NE10 Regular Season title. The Chargers concluded the 2023 season with an overall record of 23-10 and a conference mark of 10-1.
Pego was named the head coach of the Le Moyne Dolphins before deciding to return to New Haven to take the same role with the Chargers. Prior to her stop at Le Moyne, Pego spent four years at UNC Charlotte as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. During her time in Charlotte, Pego helped the 49ers to three straight Conference USA Tournament appearances. In 2020, the 49ers reached the Conference USA Tournament Semifinals for the first time in program history.
Before her stop in Charlotte, Pego served as a graduate assistant coach, assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of New Haven before being named head coach in 2018. While serving as a graduate assistant, Pego earned a Master of Science in Sport Management degree (2017) and a Master of Science in Environmental Science degree (2016). Following the 2015 season, Pego was recognized as one of seven recipients of the American Volleyball Coaches Association Minority Coaches Scholarship.
Pego joined the Chargers staff in 2014 and worked with the team's setters, including All-Region and All-Conference selection Kristen Rios. Rios led the team in assists in all three of her seasons in New Haven and ranked among the team's leaders in hitting and defense.
Prior to joining New Haven in 2014, Pego was a student assistant coach at her alma mater, Alabama State, for two seasons (2012-13). During her playing career at Alabama State, Pego was the starting setter and served as team captain during the 2011 season. Pego graduated from Alabama State in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in marine biology and graduated summa cum laude.
In addition to her experience playing Division I volleyball and coaching at the Division II level, the native of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, has also directed club volleyball for Chelsea Piers Athletic Club in Stamford, Connecticut.
