Calveira Records First Career Multi-Goal Game in Win Over Rider

HAMDEN, Conn. – Martina Calveira recorded her first collegiate multi-goal game as the Quinnipiac field hockey team downed Rider 5-1 on Sunday afternoon, earning their fourth straight victory.

With 29 seconds remaining in the opening quarter, the Bobcats were awarded their first penalty stroke of the season. Katie Shanahan converted the opportunity for her first goal of the season.

Calveira doubled the lead late in the second quarter, redirecting a penalty corner shot to send the Bobcats ahead 2-0 into halftime.

Quinnipiac's offense continued in the second half, as Ava Bleier extended the lead to 3-0 with a deflection off a shot from Maaike van Wensen.

Early in the fourth quarter, Charlie Caunter found the back of the cage for her first collegiate goal, pushing the lead to 4-0.

Rider broke through on a penalty corner goal later in the quarter, but Calveira answered minutes after with her second of the afternoon to seal the 5-1 victory.

Meike van Schoot and the Bobcats improve to 5-3 on the season, as van Schoot recorded five saves in goal.
