QU Improves to 14-5 in MAAC

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac Men's Basketball clinched a share of the MAAC regular season title on Thursday night in Hamden, holding on late to down Marist by the final score of 73-64 at M&T Bank Arena.

With the victory, the Bobcats (14-5 in the MAAC) have clinched at least a share of the 2023-24 regular season title. The last time Quinnipiac won a regular season championship came in the NEC in 2009-10.

Matt Balanc led the scoring effort with 17 points (7-14 FG), while Amarri Tice chipped in with 16 points and nine rebounds. Richie Springs added 12 points and three rebounds off the bench.

NOTES

The Bobcats shot 27-of-58 (46.6%) from the floor in total. QU knocked down four 3-pointers in the win.
QU outrebounded the Red Foxes 38-29. The Bobcats pulled down 10 offensive rebounds. Amarri Tice grabbed five offensive boards.
Matt Balanc, QU's leading scorer, poured in 17 more points in the win. Balanc shot 7-of-14 from the floor and grabbed six rebounds. He's averaging 18.3 PPG this year.
Amarri Tice added 16 points and nine rebounds, going 5-for-10 from the floor.
Richie Springs chipped in with 12 points off the bench in just over 16 minutes on the floor. Springs shot 4-of-6 from the floor. The transfer from UConn has five games with double-digit scoring totals this year. 12 points is his highest scoring output since Nov. 10 vs. Central Connecticut.
Doug Young poured in nine points off the bench – six of which came in the second half. Young went 4-for-10 shooting, and added four steals (season-high) and three assists in the win.
Point guard Savion Lewis recorded six points, nine rebounds and four assists. Lewis' nine rebounds mark a season-high, and the total is just one shy of his career-best mark (10 rebounds vs. Western New England (11/12/21).
Alexis Reyes added five points and seven rebounds.
The Bobcats' current win total (22) marks the highest for the program since the 2010-11.
QU is up to 14 league wins, which marks the highest number of MAAC wins for the program since 2013-14 (Quinnipiac's first year in the MAAC).
Quinnipiac is now 16-9 against Marist since joining the league. The Bobcats have taken five of the last six meetings vs. the Red Foxes.
QU is 15-0 when holding opponents to less than 70 points.
