Quinnipiac Baseball Mourns Passing Of Joe Mattei

HAMDEN, Conn. – Former Quinnipiac Baseball head coach, Joe Mattei, passed away at the age of 86 on February 18.
Mattei earned his bachelor's degree from Quinnipiac College and later become an assistant coach for the baseball team. From 1988-1996, Mattei was the assistant coach for the Quinnipiac baseball team and was named head coach in 1997.
Mattei was the head coach from 1997 until 2001, where he oversaw the program's transition from Division II to Division I. Mattei had an overall record of 80-113 in his five seasons as a head coach (3 seasons in Division II, 2 seasons in Division I). After leading his team to a NE-10 Championship in 1997, Mattei was named Northeast 10 Coach of the Year.
