Volleyball Falls to Fairfield In MAAC Championship

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac women's volleyball team fell to the Fairfield Stags in the 2024 MAAC Championship, three sets to one, on Sunday afternoon.
Elena Giacomini recorded her 12th double-double in a row as she finished with 24 kills and 23 digs, both team-highs. Yagmur Gunes recorded 14 kills in the four-set loss.
Elena Giacomini and Yagmur Gunes were both named to the 2024 MAAC Tournament Team.

SET ONE (25-14, Fairfield)
Fairfield kicked off the match on an 8-3 run to force Quinnipiac to call their first timeout of the match. Another 8-3 run for the Stags out of the timeout, forced the Bobcats to use their final timeout of the set.
After the timeout, the Stags would end the set on a 9-8 run and win the opening set, 25-14.
SET TWO (25-21)
A 14-10 run for the Stags to open the second set incited the Bobcats to use the first timeout of the set. Out of the timeout, the Bobcats were able to go on a 7-5 run to make it a 19-17 game.
After Fairfield used their first timeout, Fairfield was able to close out the second set with a 6-4 run and win the second set 25-21.
SET THREE (19-25)
With them down by two sets, the Bobcats came out in the third set on a 15-10 run as they approached the media timeout. Out of the break, Quinnipiac forced Fairfield to use a timeout as they held a 20-16 lead.
Out of the timeout, the Bobcats were able to finish off the set, 25-19, and keep them in the match.
SET FOUR (25-16)
With a win within reach, Fairfield kicked off the fourth set on a 12-8 run as Quinnipiac called their first timeout of the set. As the Bobcats made it a 17-13 game, Fairfield called a timeout of their own.
Out of the timeout, Fairfield would go on a 8-3 run to close out the set and match and win the MAAC Championship.

- Elena Giacomini recorded her 18th double-double of the season and 12th match in a row.
- Seven different Bobcats recorded kills in the loss to Fairfield.
- Three Bobcats reached double-double digs in the win, Elena Giacomini (23 digs), Yagmur Gunes (11 digs), and Damla Gunes (10 digs).
- Three Bobcats recorded 2.0 total blocks, Milena Silva, Bailey Brashear, and Elena Giacomini.
- Elena Giacomini and Yagmur Gunes were both named to the All-Tournament Team.
