Bobcats Win 7th Straight MAAC Game, Take Over Sole Possession of First Place

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac Men's Basketball battled to its seventh consecutive MAAC victory on Thursday night at M&T Bank Arena, as the Bobcats topped Mount St. Mary's by the final score of 79-65.
QU moves to 15-4 overall (7-1 MAAC) with the victory – good for sole possession of first place in the league standings. The Bobcats are 9-1 at home this year.
Matt Balanc led the scoring charge with 18 points. Savion Lewis added 11 points and six assists, Paul Otieno recorded 10 points and eight rebounds, and Doug Young chipped in with 10 points of his own.
QU's 15-4 record matches the program's identical start to the 1979-80 season.

- Quinnipiac shot 47.7% (31-of-65) in total, knocking down 10 3-pointers.
- QU's largest lead was 17 points, and the Bobcats held the advantage for 28:26 in total.
- The game was tied seven times, and there were six total lead changes.
- Matt Balanc led the scoring charge with 18 points on 6-of-15 shooting, adding four rebounds. The graduate guard is averaging 18.7 PPG this year (second in the MAAC).
- Savion Lewis stuffed the stat sheet once again with 11 points, six assists and two rebounds. Lewis is second nationally in assists per game (7.5 APG).
- Paul Otieno recorded 10 points, eight rebounds, a career-high five steals and two blocks. The big man went 4-of-8 from the floor.
- Alexis Reyes added six points and six rebounds, finishing with a +12 plus/minus rating.
- Doug Young scored 10 points to go along with two rebounds and two assists. Young has tallied double-digit scoring totals in four games this year, including each of his last two contests.
- Amarri Tice added eight points and four rebounds.
- Rihards Vavers knocked down a pair of triples in his return to action.
- Daemar Kelly chipped in with five points.
- The Bobcats return to action on Sunday at Fairfield. Quinnipiac (7-1) and Fairfield (6-2) are currently in first and second place, respectively, in the league standings. Game time on the 28th is slated for 2:00 PM.
