Women's Ice Hockey Announced End of Year Team Awards

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team is pleased to announce the 2022-23 team awards. Head coach Cassandra Turner, along with assistant coaches Amanda Alessi and Brent Hill. The team presented the award winners on Sunday, March 26 at the annual women's ice hockey banquet.
Rookie of the Year
The 2022-23 Rookie of the Year was awarded to first-year forward Madison Chantler. Chantler scored her first collegiate goal against Boston College on September 30, 2022 in the second period of a 5-0 victory. Chantler also recorded her first career hat trick against the Eagles tallying two goals in the third. Chantler went on to post 17 points on the season, 12 goals, 5 assists and a team-high +24. Her overtime winner against Penn State in the NCAA Regional Tournament Semifinals will go down in history as she ended the third longest game in NCAA women's ice hockey history. Chantler was also named to the HCA National Women's Rookie of the year watchlist for the 2022-23 season.
Best Defensive Player
The 2022-23 Best Defensive Player award recipient was graduate Courtney Vorster, her second time being honored during her time with the Bobcats. Vorster aided in leading the team's fifth place national ranking in scoring defense, starving the opposition to just 1.7 goals per game. Vorster was second on the team in blocked shots with 40, while also posting 11 assists and a +19.
Most Valuable Player
This year's MVP was awarded to graduate Shay Maloney in her first season as a Bobcat. A grad transfer from Brown, Maloney was an integral part of the team's offensive onslaught this season. She ended the year second on the team in points with 31, tallying 15 goals and 16 assists. Maloney played in all 40 matchups and ended the year ranked second on the team with a +23, trailing linemate Chantler. Maloney scored two game winners, two powerplay goals and the team's first short-handed goal of the year against St. Anselm.
Coaches' Award
The 2022-23 Coaches' Award was given to graduate captain Zoe Boyd. Boyd in partnership with co-captain Lexie Adzija instilled strong leadership foundations for the Bobcats. Boyd brought fun, excitement, and well-earned experience to the team. Boyd blocked 22 shots and went +20 through 27 games this season, scoring three goals and recording 11 assists.
