- FULL 2022-23 WBB Non-Conference Schedule
HAMDEN, CONN. - Trips to NC State and Indiana highlight the Quinnipiac women's basketball team's 2022-23 non-conference schedule, which was released by Head Coach Tricia Fabbri and the program on Monday, Sept. 5.
The Bobcats' non-conference slate features nine total games, including five home contests at the M&T Bank Arena in Hamden and two road bouts against teams that reached the Sweet 16 in the 2022 Div. I Women's Basketball Tournament.
"We're excited about the opportunity to see where we are as a program by measuring ourselves against the top programs in the country," Quinnipiac Head Coach Tricia Fabbri said. "We feel we are a deep and talented bunch and look forward to continuing to challenge ourselves."
The new season will begin on Monday, Nov. 7 at the James T. Valvano Arena against the Wolfpack – who reached the Elite Eight last season and are projected to be in the preseason Top-25 rankings by virtually every national outlet. The matchup between Quinnipiac and NC State is the first-ever between the two programs.
Quinnipiac returns to Hamden for consecutive home matchups against CCSU (Nov. 12) and Hartford (Nov. 14).
Quinnipiac is 21-5 all-time against the Blue Devils, taking the last five contests dating back to 2012. The last time the two sides faced off, the Bobcats came away with a 79-50 victory on the road against CCSU. The Bobcats' last meeting against Hartford came on Nov. 28, 2021, where Quinnipiac came away with a 113-64 victory at home, setting the program's Div. I scoring record in the process. The Nov. 14 matchup will be the 13th meeting all-time between the two teams, with QU holding a 9-3 advantage over the Hawks in the all-time series.
Following the quick homestand, the Bobcats will head to Bloomington, Indiana for a rematch with the Hoosiers, exactly one year to the day from last season's home-opener in Hamden. Quinnipiac will take on Indiana inside of Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Sunday, Nov. 20. This will be just the second meeting between the two programs, as the 2022 Sweet Sixteen participants and then-No. 4 Hoosiers narrowly defeated the Bobcats, 67-59 in Hamden on Nov. 20, 2021.
Quinnipiac's non-conference slate continues with the Christmas City Classic, hosted by Lehigh from Nov. 26-27. The Bobcats open the annual holiday tournament with a Saturday contest against Kent State, marking the first ever matchup between the two programs. Quinnipiac will then take on the winner of Saturday's matchup between Southern Illinois and hosts Lehigh.
QU then returns home to host St. Francis Brooklyn (Dec. 4), Yale (Dec. 7) and Rhode Island (Dec.11) at the M&T Bank Arena to wrap non-conference play. The matchup against the Terriers marks the first contest between the two former NEC rivals since Quinnipiac joined the MAAC prior to the 2014-15 campaign. The Bobcats are 12-5 all-time against their cross city rivals Yale and have won three of the last four contests against the Bulldogs. The last time the two sides matched up QU downed Yale, 61-59, in Hamden on Dec. 1, 2021. Quinnipiac is undefeated in five contests all-time against Rhode Island entering the Dec. 11 matchup. The Bobcats defeated the Rams on the road, 61-50, in the first round of the WNIT on March 18, 2022 to earn its fifth ever win in a national postseason tournament.
Fabbri, the all-time winningest coach in Quinnipiac women's basketball history, recently completed her 27th season as Head Coach at Quinnipiac. She helped guide the Bobcats to a 21-12 record, securing the program's 11th straight winning season under her helm. The Bobcats went on to earn the No. 2 seed in the MAAC Tournament before earning an automatic bid in the WNIT. Fabbri's Bobcats defeated URI on the road in the opener to earn the program's fifth ever win in a national postseason tournament and first since the 2018 season.
The Bobcats return all three of the team's All-MAAC selections following the completion of the 2021-22 season. Mackenzie DeWees (13.8 PPG, 7.3 RPG, 3.3 STL) was named to the All-First Team, while Mikala Morris (11.7 PPG, 9.5 RPG, 1.6 BPG) earned All-Second Team honors and Jackie Grisdale (4.7 PPG, 1.6 RPG) was named to the All-Rookie Team.
