HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's basketball program has announced the additions of Ike Nweke (Woodbine, Maryland) and Paul Otieno (Nairobi, Kenya), as revealed by Head Coach Baker Dunleavy on Monday, April 25, 2022.
Both forwards will join the Bobcats ahead of the upcoming 2022-23 season. Nweke – who led Columbia in points per game (15.9 PPG) this past season – will spend his graduate year in Hamden. Otieno will join the Bobcats after spending his first two collegiate years at Kilgore College in Texas.
"Quinnipiac Basketball is excited to welcome Ike Nweke and Paul Otieno to our family," Dunleavy said. "Both Ike and Paul are great additions to our front court. They will help make us better each day as we continue to compete for a championship."
Ike Nweke | Forward | Height: 6-7 | Weight: 248
Nweke transfers to Quinnipiac after playing in three seasons at Columbia University (2018-19, 2019-20, 2021-22). He played in 65 total games during that span, making 39 starts.

The Woodbine, Maryland-native led the Lions in scoring last season over 10 games played. He recorded 15.9 PPG & 6.3 RPG for Columbia, scoring double-digit point totals on nine occasions. Nweke recorded a season-high 22 points vs. Princeton (1/7/21) on 11-of-18 shooting, then followed up with 21 points and a season-best 15 rebounds the next day against vs. Penn (1/8/21).
"Ike is a versatile forward that will make an immediate impact with our group," Dunleavy said "He has three years of great experience at the Division I level already, and his veteran presence will help us both on and off the floor. Our entire group is looking forward to seeing what Ike can accomplish at Quinnipiac."
He tallied 567 points and 222 rebounds over three seasons at Columbia, shooting 51.8% from the floor (236-455). Nweke averaged 8.7 PPG & 4.7 RPG for his career with the Lions.
Paul Otieno | Forward | Height: 6-8 | Weight: 225
Otieno will join the Bobcats with three seasons of eligibility remaining.

He started in all 34 games for Kilgore last season (2021-22), posting 11.0 PPG & 7.6 RPG on 68.7% shooting. Otieno scored a season-high 24 points vs. Missouri State West Plains (11/7), registering 16 separate double-digit point totals during the course of the campaign.
"Paul is another great addition to our group," Dunleavy said. "He displayed his athleticism at Kilgore College last season, and his defensive impact is evident. We're excited to get Paul on campus ahead of the upcoming season, and we look forward to his impact on both ends of the floor."
Otieno was selected as an Honorable Mention All-American for his performance this past year. He finished 9th in the NJCAA in total field goal percentage. The forward was selected to the NJCAA Men's Basketball Coaches Association All-Star game for his performance.
Otieno recorded 7.8 PPG & 6.8 RPG during his first year at Kilgore (2020-21), shooting at an impressive 69.6% mark from the floor.
