Bobcats Earn 3 Major MAAC Awards

Bercedo (Golden Boot), Stjernegaard (Rookie of the Year), & Da Costa (Coach of the Year) All Receive Honors
EDISON, NJ – Quinnipiac men's soccer has captured three major MAAC Men's Soccer awards, as announced by the league office on Monday, Nov. 7.
David Bercedo has earned the MAAC Golden Boot Award, Alexander Stjernegaard is the MAAC Rookie of the Year, and Eric Da Costa has been named the league's Coach of the Year.
The Bobcats also had six student-athletes earn All-MAAC status.
Brage Aasen, David Bercedo, Tomas Svecula and Alexander Stjernegaard were all tabbed All-MAAC First Team honorees, and Sander Sonsterud and Karl Netzell received Second Team status.
The Bobcats went 6-2-2 in the MAAC in 2022, posting an 11-4-3 record in total. QU earned four straight shutouts from Oct. 19 – Oct. 29 in league play. Quinnipiac has won five MAAC regular season titles since joining the league (2013, 2014, 2016, 2020-21, 2022). The Bobcats will begin postseason play on Thursday, Nov. 10 in Hamden vs. Niagara in the MAAC Semifinals.
David Bercedo – MAAC Golden Boot
Bercedo led the way for the Bobcats with 28 total points. Bercedo scored 11 goals to go along with six assists, playing in all 18 games for QU.
The senior forward from Madrid, Spain led the conference in points and goals during the regular season, logging 28 points and netting 11 tallies. Bercedo ranked eighth nationally in total goals and fourth in the country in total points, while being the only player in the conference this regular season to score double-digit goals and register above 20 points. He joins former Bobcat Eamon Whelan (2018) as the only other Quinnipiac winner of the MAAC top offensive player of the year award.

Alexander Stjernegaard – MAAC Rookie of the Year
Stjernegaard finished second on QU in points (17), scoring four goals to go along with nine assists. He was the conference leader in assists, a mark that was tied for seventh in the NCAA. The Denmark-native tied for third in the MAAC with 17 points and was fourth on Quinnipiac's charts with four goals. He becomes the third MAAC Rookie of the Year from Quinnipiac (Whelan 2016, Svecula 2019).

Eric Da Costa – MAAC Coach of the Year
Da Costa led the Bobcats to a 11-4-3 overall record in 2022. The Bobcats went 6-2-2 in league play under his tutelage to earn the MAAC regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the postseason tournament. The honor is Da Costa' third since joining the MAAC in 2013. The Bobcats have won five regular-season trophies since 2013 – which leads all MAAC schools in that span. QU won a regular season title in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2020-21 and now 2022.

Brage Aasen: All-MAAC First Team
Aasen had four goals and four assists over nine games for QU this year. He recorded two of his goals and a pair of assists vs. MAAC opponents.
Tomas Svecula: All-MAAC First Team
Svecula scored six goals to go along with four assists this year. The senior had three goals in MAAC play, and scoring twice vs. Mount St. Mary's on 10/26.
Sander Sonsterud: All-MAAC First Team
Played in 14 games for QU, logging 815 minutes on the pitch. Sonsterud helped anchor a QU defense that allowed just 1.17 goals per game and recorded four consecutive clean sheets in MAAC play (Oct. 19 – 29).
Karl Netzell: All-MAAC First Team
Netzell helped anchor a QU defense that allowed just 1.17 goals per game and recorded four consecutive clean sheets in MAAC play (Oct. 19 – 29). Netzell allowed just 15 goals over 15 games, and recorded six clean sheets during regular season action.
