
Bobcats Earn Split at URI Invitational to Begin Year

Maggie Baker, Olga Zampati Each Record Double-Double in Win vs. Holy Cross
KINGSTON, R.I. – Quinnipiac women's volleyball kicked off the fall 2021 season on Friday afternoon at the URI Invitational, earning a 1-1 split at Keaney Gymnasium.
The Bobcats began the day by topping Holy Cross (3-2), then fell 3-1 against Rhode Island.

QUINNIPIAC STATISTICAL LEADERS: MATCH 1
Baker had 19 kills and 18 digs. Her 19 kills rank tied for the fourth-most in her Bobcat career, while Baker's 18 digs are tied for a career-high mark. Zampati added 14 kills, 12 digs, and four service aces.
Nicole Legg added 12 kills, a .304 hitting percentage and five blocks in her fourth-ever appearance at QU. Chloe Ka'ahanui added a career-high 53 assists for QU in the win over Holy Cross.

SET ONE
Quinnipiac took the first set by the final score of 27-25. Holy Cross took an early 8-3 lead, then the Bobcats scored four consecutive points to come storming back. QU took each of the last three points, including two kills by Maggie Baker to help clinch the set.
SET TWO
The two teams battled to a 14-14 tie midway through the second set, then Quinnipiac took each of the next eight points to storm ahead 22-14. The Bobcats finished off the set with a 25-18 win.
SET THREE
The Crusaders won the third set 25-22. Holy Cross took five of the final seven points to help force a fourth set.
SET FOUR
After Holy Cross took a quick 5-0 lead to begin the fourth stanza, Quinnipiac won four of the next six points to make it 7-4. After a Nicole Legg kill to make it 21-17, Holy Cross took six straight to once again take the lead. Holy Cross held on to take the set 25-23.
SET FIVE
The Bobcats took the fifth and final set 15-11. QU went on a run at the end of the match, scoring seven of the final nine points to clinch the victory. Olga Zampati recorded a kill to make it 14-11, then Nicole Legg finished the match out with a kill of her own.

The Bobcats took the first set 25-16. QU took an early 10-4 advantage on a Maggie Baker kill, recording seven of eight points during the early run. Alexandra Tennon clinched the set and point with two straight kills.
SET TWO
QU then took an early 3-0 lead over Rhode Island, before URI when on a small run to tie the match 6-6. Maggie Baker recorded a kill to give QU a late 20-18 lead, but then Rhode Island won seven of the last 10 points to even the match.
SET THREE
URI took the third stanza 25-21. Rhode Island took an early 4-0 lead, then fought off the Bobcats at the end with three straight points to help clinch the point.
SET FOUR
After URI took an early 8-5 lead, the Bobcats came storming back in the middle of the set to tie things 23-23. Rhode Island then won each of the final two points, as a block by Grace Hammond helped clinch the victory for the home team.
