
Missouri-Native Dezi Jones Signs With Bobcats

Hannibal High School, Moberly Area Community College Standout Point Guard Joins Quinnipiac Ahead of 2021-22 Season
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's basketball program received a commitment from Dezmond (Dezi) Jones of Moberly Area Community College, as announced by Head Coach Baker Dunleavy and the program on Thursday, April 22, 2021.
Jones is a native of Hannibal, Missouri. He will join the Bobcats in 2021-22 with three full years of eligibility remaining.
Most recently, Jones averaged 17.5 points, 4.7 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game in 22 contests as a sophomore at MACC in 2020-21 – shooting 41.5% from the field and 35.5% from three-point range. The 5-10, 170-pound point guard recorded 19 games of 10+ points, surpassing 20 points in a contest 12 separate times in the NJCAA. Jones scored a season-best 34 points on March 3, 2021 against Three Rivers, going 9-of-14 from the floor.
"Quinnipiac Basketball is very excited to welcome Dezmond Jones and his family to our program," Dunleavy said. "Dezi is a crafty, tough guard who plays a winning style of basketball. He had a stellar career at Hannibal High School, and has continued to grow at Moberly Area Community College under Coach Pat Smith. Dezi will make us a better basketball team, and we're excited for him to get on campus."

Jones tallied 12.0 points, 4.1 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game for MACC in 33 contests as a freshman in 2019-20. He shot 43.6% from the floor, and 37.9% from three-point distance, and recorded 12 games of 10+ points as a freshman. Jones scored a season-high 29 points against Three Rivers on Jan. 10, 2020, shooting 10-of-15 from the floor and 5-for-9 from three-point range.
Jones is a former Hannibal High School star, leaving as the program's all-time leading scorer. As a senior at Hannibal, the guard helped lead his squad to a North Central Missouri Conference title. He scored 30.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game during that season (2018-19). He also set a Hannibal High School record for points in a single game (50) against Marshall on Feb. 9, 2019. He scored 2,153 career points for his career, and 721 points as a senior.
He is the first announced addition for the Quinnipiac men's basketball program in the spring of 2021.
