Whipkey Leads Way with Fourth Straight Scholar of Distinction Honor
BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Four Quinnipiac field hockey players have been named National Field Hockey Coaches' Association (NFHCA) Scholars of Distinction, as announced by the NFHCA on March 25.
More than 250 student-athletes have been recognized as Division I Scholars of Distinction this year. The Scholars of Distinction program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2020-21 academic year.
Quinnipiac was second among BIG EAST institutions with four honorees, trailing only Old Dominion's five honorees.
Senior Brooke Whipkey (Charlotte, North Carolina) earned recognition for the fourth consecutive season for the Bobcats, and is the first Bobcat since Angie King '17 to be named a Scholar of Distinction four consecutive seasons.
Junior Jess Halley (Glasgow, Scotland) has been named a Scholar of Distinction for a third straight year for the Bobcats as she has excelled in the classroom just like Whipkey.
Sophomore Julianna Cappello (Mohegan Lake, New York) picked up the honor for the second consecutive season after earning the honor as a first year in 2019.
First year Emiline Biggin (Carle Place, New York) excelled in the classroom in her first semester as a Bobcat as she earned Scholar of Distinction honors for the first time.
The Quinnipiac field hockey team is back in action on Sunday at Noon as the Bobcats travel to Storrs to take on the No. 8 UConn Huskies in the final game of a home-and-home weekend series.
