
Tufto, Smilanic Pick Up ECAC Hockey Weekly Awards

Tufto Earns Second Player of the Week, Smilanic Third Rookie of the Week
ALBANY, N.Y. – Quinnipiac men's ice hockey senior captain Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) has been named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week and first-year forward Ty Smilanic (Denver, Colorado) earn ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday, March 1.
Tufto's player of the week honors are his second of the season while Smilanic has earned his third rookie of the week award.
Tufto had a solid week for the Bobcats as he led the nation in assists with eight and points with nine along with his 43 faceoff wins. He also had five power-play assists and averaged three points per game to lead the nation.
He recorded his second four-assist game of the season, and third of his career, in a 7-1 win over LIU to start the week before assisting the first three goals in a 4-2 win at St. Lawrence. Tufto had a goal and an assist to close out the week.
His assist on Sunday moved him into a tie with Reid Cashman '07 for first in program history with 125 assists. Tufto is also up 161 points, just eight from tying Bryan Leitch '09 and Brian Herbert '03 for first in Division I program history and sixth in program history with 169 points.
This season, Tufto has five goals and a career-high 35 assists for 40 points to give him three 40-point seasons in his career. He is one of just two Bobcats, joining Cashman, to record three 40-point seasons in the program's Division I era. Tufto leads the nation with 35 assists and remains second with 40 points, just two behind Cole Caufield, while Tufto also leads the nation with 18 power-play assists and 20 power-play points.
Smilanic had an impressive two goals and three assists for five points this week for the Bobcats. He was tied for the third-most points in the nation this week, and led all rookies.
He had his first career four-point game with a goal and three assists against LIU to start the week on Monday before chipping in another power-play goal at St. Lawrence on Friday.
Smilanic is tied for sixth in the nation in goals with 14, also good for the most among the nation's rookies, while his 20 points are tied for fifth in the nation among first years. He is also tied for sixth in the nation and second among rookies with six power-play goals.
The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team hosts Colgate in a weekend series to wrap up the 2020-21 regular season with puck drop set for 6 p.m. on Friday night and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
