Junior Guard Named MAAC Player of the Week by Conference and College Sports Madness
EDISON, N.J. – Quinnipiac women's basketball junior guard Mackenzie DeWees was named MAAC Player of the Week by the conference, as well as College Sports Madness, as announced on Monday, Jan. 11.
In the Bobcats three games last week, DeWees averaged 17 points and seven rebounds to lead Quinnipiac to three wins. The Westminster, Md. native shot an efficient 22-for-37 (59 percent) from the floor in the three-game stretch.
DeWees began the week with a career offensive performance as she scored a career-high 20 points in the Bobcats win over Marist on Monday. She added nine rebounds, three assists and two steals in the victory.
In the opener of the two-game series with Saint Peter's, the junior guard scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds. She also added four assists and three steals in Quinnipiac's win. DeWees led the Bobcats offensively in the series finale as she tallied 18 points, three rebounds and three assists in the Bobcats third consecutive victory.
This is the first time that DeWees has earned a MAAC weekly honor in her career. The last Bobcat to take home both the conference and College Sports Madness player of the week honors in the same week was Aryn McClure '19, as she earned both awards in Feb. 2017.
Two other Bobcats have been recognized with player of the week honors this season. Sophomore forward Mikala Morris was named MAAC Player of the Week on Dec. 21, and junior guard Rose Caverly was named MAAC Player of the Week by College Sports Madness on Nov. 30.
