Quinnipiac Wins 10 Matches During First Weekend

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac men's tennis wrapped up the 2019 Quinnipiac Invitational on Sunday, completing the first weekend of the new season.

Patrick Cachapero advanced to the semifinal round of the A Singles bracket with a pair of wins during the opening week of 2019-20, while Alester Magalit and Bryan Schick won two matches together in the B Doubles bracket.

Quinnipiac competed in 25 matches in total during the entire tournament, earning 10 total wins.

Day 1 Notes:

Aleksa Martinovic and Patrick Cachapero both advanced to the second round of A Singles by virtue of a bye. Martinovic will square off with Marist's Gonzalez Bonorino on Saturday in Day 2, while Cachapero's match will be vs. Kemper of Fordham.
Axel Stern and Austin Yannone will also advance with a bye in the B Singles bracket. Both will take on a MAAC opponent in Day 2, as Stern will play vs. a Fairfield opponent (Magid) and Yannone's (Sequerth) match will be against a Marist foe.
The duo of Axel Stern and Aleksa Martinovic defeated Marist's duo of Schouten/Sequerth by the final score of 6-2, and will take on Lilienthal/Carter of Wesleyan tomorrow in a semifinal match in A Doubles.
Alester Magalit and Bryan Schick won a pair of matches together in B Doubles, and will take on Holtman/Provenzano (UConn) in the semifinal match.

Day 2 Notes:

Cachapero won two A Singles contests, first defeating Kemper of Fordham in straight sets before topping UConn's Holtman with an impressive 15-13 win in the third set. He will square off with Carter (Wesleyan) tomorrow in the semifinal round of the A Singles bracket.
Axel Stern won a B Singles contest (6-1, 6-1) to begin Day 2, before then falling to Mauritzson (Fordham).
Austin Yannone and Alester Magalit each won a consolation singles contest, as well.

Day 3 Notes:

Patrick Cachapero fell in the semifinal round of A Singles. He won two singles matches during the course of the weekend.
Alester Magalit and Hielke Moore both won a consolation singles contest. Magalit topped Duke of Fordham (8-3), while Moore earned a win over Wesleyan's Fleischman 8-6.
