Bobcats Look to Make MAAC Tournament for Fourth Straight Year
EDISON, N.J. – The Quinnipiac volleyball team has been picked to finish fourth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, August 20.
The Bobcats received 62 points in the poll after finishing seventh last season and defeating Niagara in the First Round of the MAAC Tournament. The Bobcats also received a first place vote for the second time in the last three years.
Canisius received five first place votes and 93 points as they were tabbed the favorites to win the MAAC. Fairfield received four first place votes and 90 points to land them in second, followed by Iona with 73 points. Following Quinnipiac were Marist (62 points) and Rider (56 points) in fifth and sixth place. Niagara (42), Saint Peter's (28), Manhattan (28) and Siena (16) round out the preseason poll.
2019 ushers in a new chapter of Quinnipiac volleyball with the hiring of head coach Kyle Robinson. Robinson comes to Quinnipiac after serving as an assistant coach at Oklahoma from 2015 to 2018.
Quote from Head Coach Kyle Robinson:
Robinson announced the hiring of assistant coach Katie Urycki '17 to the coaching staff last month. Urycki comes back to her alma mater after being a four-year standout for the Bobcats.
Losing only one senior from last season, the Bobcats return a veteran team to the court. Seniors Alejandra Rodriguez (Toa Alta, P.R.), Lauren Miller (Collegeville, Pa.), Maria Pansari (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) and Kaleigh Oates (Downingtown, Pa.) return with a lot of experience for the Bobcats, seeing a lot of action over the past three seasons.
The Bobcats will welcome four newcomers to the experienced squad. Freshmen Alisa Mejia (Rye Brook, N.Y.) and Aryanah Diaz (Miami, Fla.) will join the team as well as two transfers, Georgia Tselepi (Athens, Greece) transferring from Cincinnati and Olga Zampati (Athens, Greece) transferring from Oklahoma.
Quinnipiac volleyball kicks off their 2019 season against The College of William & Mary on August 30th at 10 a.m. in the Morgan State Invitational.
