Acrobatics and Tumbling Freshman Base Garners First National Rookie of the Week Honor

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac acrobatics and tumbling freshman Asia Johnson (New Britain, Connecticut) has been named the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) Rookie of the Week, as announced by the NCATA on Sunday, April 7.
Johnson is Quinnipiac's second national weekly award winner following Carly Duval (Tampa, Florida) who was named the NCATA Specialist of the Week on March 15. Johnson is also the Bobcats' first-ever player to win the national rookie of the week honors.
Cassidy Osher (Old Bridge, New Jersey) was also named to the honorable mention for the league's athlete of the week honors.
Earlier this week, Johnson was named the ECAC Acrobatics and Tumbling Rookie of the Week for the first time in her career.
Johnson competed in 10 events for the Bobcats in their victory over No. 8 Gannon on March 30. As a team, Quinnipiac recorded seven scores of 9.60 or higher.
The Bobcats recorded three season-highs in heats that she competed in, with a 9.95 in the inversion heat and a 9.65 in the synchronized heat of the pyramid event. Quinnipiac also recorded a season-high of 29.35 in the pyramid event.
Johnson was also part of the pyramid group in the acro event that tied a season-high with a 9.90 and also recorded a 38.15 overall in the compulsory event, the second-best score this season.
The Bobcats finished the 2019 season with a 4-2 record and finished 3-0 in ECAC play. Quinnipiac begins preparations for the NCATA National Championships in Waco, Texas, set for April 25-27 and is hosted by Baylor University.
