
Volleyball Takes Down #2 Canisius in MAAC Semifinals

Bobcats will face #1 Fairfield on Sunday afternoon in MAAC Championship game
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The #6 Quinnipiac volleyball team defeated the #2 Canisius Golden Griffins in five sets on Saturday night. The Bobcats advance to their second MAAC Championship game in four seasons with their last appearance coming in 2016.
Sophomore Outside Hitter Olga Zampati recorded a career-high 24 kills in the victory.

SET ONE
Canisius won the first three points of the set. The Bobcats got within one point on two occasions in the beginning of the set, but Canisius answered with back-to-back points both times. The Golden Griffins scored three straight points to push their lead to 13-8, resulting in a Bobcats timeout. Coming out of the timeout the Bobcats went on a 5-0 run to cut the Griffs lead to 14-13. A 3-0 run from the Bobcats gave them their first lead of the set at 17-16. The Bobcats again won three consecutive points to push their lead to 20-17. Canisius called their second timeout of the set with the Bobcats leading 22-19. Canisius won three consecutive points out of their timeout to tie the set at 22. Quinnipiac won three of the final four points of the set to take the set 25-23.
SET TWO
Quinnipiac won three consecutive points to take a 5-2 lead, but Canisius answered right back with three points of their own to tie the score at five. The Bobcats took a 10-7 lead, resulting in a Canisius timeout. Quinnipiac won six consecutive points, pushing their lead to 16-9. The Bobcats used their first timeout in the set with Canisius cutting the Bobcat lead to 17-15. The Bobcats won the final eight points of the set to take the set 25-15.
SET THREE
The Bobcats won five consecutive points to take a 9-6 lead, forcing Canisius to call a timeout. The Griffs won three consecutive points to take an 11-10 lead. The teams traded points through the middle of the set, which allowed Canisius to maintain a two point lead. The Bobcats called a timeout with Canisius leading 17-14. The Griffs went on a 6-0 run, which extended their lead to 21-14. The Bobcats answered back with a 4-0 run to cut their deficit to 21-18. Canisius won the final four points of the set to take the set 25-18.
SET FOUR
The Bobcats began the set on a 4-0 run. Canisius came back and won fout consecutive points of their own to tie the set at four. Canisius won five straight points, which gave them a 12-10 lead, forcing a Quinnipiac timeout. The Bobcats called their second timeout of the set with the Griffs leading 18-14. Canisius was forced to call a timeout with the Bobcats on a 3-0 run and getting within 20-18. Canisius won five of the last six points in the set to take the set 25-20.
SET FIVE
Canisius won the first three points of the set, but the Bobcats answered right back with six straight points of their own, which led to a Canisius timeout. The teams switched sides with the Bobcats leading 8-5. Canisius went on a 3-0 run, which brought them within one, 9-8. Canisius would eventually tie the set at nine, but the Bobcats won back-to-back points to take an 11-9 lead and force Canisius to call a timeout. Canisius fought off one match point, but the Bobcats won the set 15-12 and took the match 3-2.
