Baker Leads Bobcats with Eight Kills, Fourth Straight Match with Different Kills Leader

STORRS, Conn. – The Quinnipiac volleyball team fell in an in-state battle Tuesday night as the Bobcats traveled to Storrs and fell to the UConn Huskies, 3-0, Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET (UConn 25, Quinnipiac 13)

Kat Miller (Collegeville, Pennsylvania) opened up the scoring for the Bobcats with a kill in the opening set
The Bobcats and Huskies traded pairs of points throughout the first set until UConn extended its lead from 8-5 to 19-8 by recording 11 of 14 points in the stretch
Miller and Maggie Baker (Huntington Beach, California) each tallied three kills in the first set

SECOND SET (UConn 25, Quinnipiac 20)

Quinnipiac and UConn were tied 3-3 early after a Gabby Horman (Smithtown, New York) and a couple errors from the Huskies
UConn rattled off seven of the next eight points to take a 10-4 lead
The Bobcats clawed their way back thanks to a five-point run with two kills from Baker, a kill from Horman and a pair of assisted blocks from Miller and Horman to tie the match at 14
After UConn took a 20-15 lead, Quinnipiac pulled back within two at 21-19 but the Huskies won four of the next five points to take the set

THIRD SET (UConn 25, Quinnipiac 15)

UConn took a commanding lead quickly in the third set, jumping out to a 13-3 lead in the first 16 points.
Late in the set, the Bobcats pulled back within seven points behind kills from five different players and a pair of service aces
Despite the late rally, UConn took the final three points of the set to clinch the win

NOTES

For a fourth straight match, a different Bobcat lead the team in kills as Baker had eight kills and paced the team with a .286 hitting percentage
Baker also added four digs in the match
Baker's impressive performance moved her into third on the team with 17 kills
Kat Miller continued to be aggressive both offensively and defensively for the Bobcats, finishing with six kills, five digs and three blocks
Horman led the way with four blocks for the Bobcats to go with her three kills
