HAMDEN, Connecticut – Quinnipiac field hockey head coach Becca Main has announced seniors Dayna Barlow (Port Elizabeth, South Africa), Michelle Federico (Cheshire, Connecticut) and sophomore Livy Golini (York, Maine) as captains for the 2017 season.
"Michelle, Dayna and Livy all possess the attitude and leadership we want all of our student-athletes to embody," Main said. "They are all cut from the same mold and are invested in the team's future. All three value the opportunity to be a Bobcat and their drive to unify our team will secure our future. Each captain is completely dialed-in and dedicated to our focus of 'One Goal, One Pack'."
Federico, a captain for the second-straight season, started in 17 of Quinnipiac's 18 games last season accumulating four goals and eight points for the year. Federico scored twice, including the game-winner, in a 4-2 win against Georgetown in the Bobcats' first BIG EAST game in program history. She also scored in the Bobcats' win against Old Domion and against Yale to guide Quinnipiac to a 3-0 record when she scored a goal. With one assist this season, she has compiled seven goals and nine assists for 23 points in 57 games played in her career.
"I am honored to have the ability to work with such professionals and am grateful to have Michelle in the role for a second year - she is the catalyst for implementing all of our team goals and Dayne and Livy compliment her," Main said.
Barlow entered the season as the Bobcats' top returning scorer after logging eight goals and three assists for 19 points as a junior in 2016. Of Barlow's career-high eight goals, she accounted for a team-leading three game-winners. Barlow's most impressive run came in a four-game goal streak from Oct. 10 through 21 that saw Quinnipiac post a 2-2 record that included a 3-2 overtime win against No. 18 Old Dominion for the biggest win in program history. To date, she has totaled 14 goals and 10 assists for 38 points in 59 career games.
Golini is coming off a brilliant freshman season as the Bobcats' starting goalkeeper. Golini started 17 of the Bobcats' 18 games in the cage, posting a 5-11 record with a 2.45 goals-against average and a .685 save percentage. Last season, Golini was honored as the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on Aug. 29, 2016 after a 12-save performance against nationally-ranked Boston College and a seven-save showing against UMass Lowell. She also posted a shutout against Brown and also stopped a season-, and career-high 13 saves against UConn. Earlier this year, she turned back 13 of No. 24 Maine's 16 shots on goal.
