On the heels of another highly successful season, the Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team will begin the 2017-2018 season at home against Concordia University in an exhibition matchup on Sunday at 3 PM.
2016-2017 RECAP
- The Bobcats finished last season with an overall record of 21-10-6. They finished with a 13-6-3 record in conference.
- Last year marked the eighth consecutive year the Bobcats have made the postseason.
- Quinnipiac finished with the third best power play percentage in the ECAC at a rate of 17.6%.
- The Bobcats excelled on the penalty kill, as the team finished with 87.8%, second best in the ECAC.
- Defense was a major strength, as the team allowed just 50 goals, lowest in the ECAC.
- On average, the Bobcats allowed 1.30 goals per game, the best rate in the ECAC.
- Quinnipiac said goodbye to a senior class that won over 103 games in their four years in Hamden.
2017-2018 PREVIEW
- Senior T.T. Cianfarano (Oswego, N.Y.) comes into this season with 108 career points, the 3rd most in program history. She only needs 16 points to be alone in 2nd place.
- Junior Melissa Samoskevich (Sandy Hook, Conn.) led the team in points, 29, with 10 goals and 19 assists, also a team high.
- Sophomore Goaltender Abbie Ives (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) allowed just one goal in six appearances for the Bobcats last season. She finished with a 3-0-1 record and a 0.23 goals against average.
- The Bobcats have brought in eight new members of the team, seven freshmen and one transfer junior.
- Junior Anna Kilponen (Orivesi, Finland) transferred to Quinnipiac from the University of North Dakota after the Fighting Hawks disbanded their women's hockey program.
- Kilponen tallied 2 points in six games will playing for Finland in the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi.
- Cassandra Turner has recorded 51 wins over her first two seasons as Head Coach of the Bobcats, the most wins over any two-year stretch in program history.
CONCORDIA NOTES
- The Stingers finished last season with a 10-9-1 overall record.
- Concordia will feature sophomore Audrey Belzile. The forward was the sixth-best scorer in the RSEQ last year, scoring nine goals through 20 games.
- Katherine Purchase finished last season as the second best goalie in the RSEQ, letting up an average of 2.33 goals per game.
