EDISON, New Jersey – Quinnipiac women's tennis senior Sitilia Rencheli (Sarasota, Florida) has been named the MAAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Wednesday, April 26.
This is the third time this season that Rencheli has received the award and fourth time of her career. Rencheli is the third Quinnipiac women's tennis player to be honored with a weekly award this season, as Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) and Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) won the award earlier this season as well.
Sitilia Rencheli went an impressive 6-0 over the past week, all against MAAC competition. Rencheli won all of her singles matches in sweeping fashion this week, starting with defeating Sarah Stuhlmann of Fairfield in straight sets, 6-3 and 6-2. She followed with a sweep over Monmouth's Adriana Armendariz, 6-1 and 6-1 in straight sets. Rencheli closed the week with a convincing sweep of Marist's Ariel Shulman, 6-1 and 6-0.
Rencheli went a perfect 2-0 with doubles partner Kelsi Oliphant (Calgary, Alberta) and 1-0 with Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) as well. The Bobcats duo defeated Emily Lombardi and Karen McKeough of Fairfield, 6-4. Rencheli and Lohaphaisan then defeated Chioma Gabriel and Alexandra Graff of Monmouth, 6-0. Rencheli and Oliphant closed the week with a convincing 6-4 win over Callie Morlock Kauffman and Claire Schmitz.
Rencheli currently has 32 wins this season, with 22 of them coming from doubles competition, both of which are career-highs. When Rencheli has teamed with freshman Layla Rodriguez (Rancho Santa Margarita, California) the duo has combined to win 12 games on the season, which is second on the team. Rencheli is also 9-0 when she has partnered with fellow senior Oliphant.
The Quinnipiac women's tennis team looks to defend their back-to-back-to-back MAAC Tournament championships this week at the 2017 MAAC Tournament down in West Windsor, New Jersey. The Bobcats will face the No. 4 seed Fairfield, with the winner facing the winner of No. 2 seed Siena and No. 3 seed Marist.
