GAME NOTES
- Quinnipiac Head Coach Baker Dunleavy was making a return to Philadelphia after a very successful career at Villanova as both a player and a coach. Dunleavy served as an associate head coach under Jay Wright for four years at Villanova, compiling a 129-17 record in that span, including a national title in 2016.
- The game was the sixth that the Bobcats have played this year (out of 11) that has been decided by two points or less. Five of the six have featured the winning shot in the air at the buzzer.
- After Drexel went ahead on Lee's three-pointer, the Bobcats designed a play out of a timeout that resulted in a good, contested look at a three-pointer from freshman guard Rich Kelly (Shelton, Conn.), but it hit off the rim.
- Senior guard Cameron Young (Los Angeles, Cali.) scored 10 straight Quinnipiac points down the stretch, including a three-pointer to cut the lead to one with 1:47 left, and two foul shots to again cut the lead to one with 34 seconds left.
- After a timeout, the Bobcats sprung a full court trap on Drexel, and senior guard Isaiah Washington (Williamsport, Pa.) came up with a steal in the backcourt and a layup to put the Bobcats ahead 70-69.
- After the Bobcats got a stop, Kelly hit one of two foul shots to make it a two-point game, setting up the winning three-pointer from Lee.
- Young had 19 of his 24 points in the second half, including 10 in a row beginning with a three-point play that cut Drexel's largest lead of five points down to two at 63-61 with 4:23 to go. .
- Quinnipiac jumped out to an 11-4 lead behind six quick points from junior forward Abdulai Bundu (Upper Marlboro, Md.), but Drexel got right back in it with an 8-2 run and the first half stayed close the rest of the way.
- The lead changed 10 times in the first half with Drexel holding a narrow 37-36 lead at the break. Kelly capped off the first half with a floater in the paint to close the gap to one.
- Bundu's 17 passed his previous season high of 13, set in Quinnipiac's last game against Hartford.
- Kelly finished the game with seven assists and no turnovers in the losing effort.
- Drexel had a 46-28 advantage on the glass, including 17-5 on the offensive end.
