BOBCATS LOOK TO BOUNCE BACK
After falling to a pair of ACC opponents (Boston College and Louisville) to begin the 2016 season, the Quinnipiac University men's soccer team is looking to get into the win column as it travels to the Bronx, NY to take on Fordham on Friday, Sept. 2. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Jack Coffey Field.
The Bobcats enter 2016 looking to return to their old form, which saw them win three-straight regular season conference titles from 2012-14 (2012 in the Northeast Conference and 2013-14 in the MAAC). Last season, Quinnipiac posted a 2-11-6 overall record (1-5-4 in the MAAC).
LAST TIME OUT
Quinnipiac forced OT on Tuesday night in Kentucky, but ultimately lost, 2-1, when Danny Reynolds struck the game-winner for the Cardinals with 6:46 left in extra time. It was the second time in program history that Quinnipiac forced OT against an ACC opponent, the first coming in a 2-2 tie vs. Boston College on Sept. 9, 2013.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
The Loebe brothers, Fordham's top two scorers in 2015, both return for the new season. Janos Loebe, who is entering his sophomore year, led the Rams scoring charge last season with five goals and five assists. Jannik Loebe, a junior, registered give goals and three helpers last year. Transfer forward Cole Stevenson scored Fordham's lone goal thus far in 2016 in a tie vs. UMBC.
Goalkeeper Rashid Nuhu also returns for his sophomore season for Fordham. He went 7-7-2 with a 1.29 GAA in 17 games last year as a freshman. He's started both games in net for the Rams this year, making four saves against UMBC and six saves against Deleware.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
The Bobcats have started different goalkeepers in each of its two games so far this season.
Most recently, senior Brian Westerman (Rockville Centre, New York) had an impressive six-save performance Louisville to help the Bobcats force overtime vs. Louisville. The veteran keeper was pressured consistently by the Cardinals' offense, but was quick off his line all night. One of Westerman's biggest stops was a full-extension diving save with less than 20 seconds remaining in regulation, blocking Geoffrey Dee's strike to keep the game tied and force OT.
Freshman keeper Chrysostomos Iakovidis (Thessaloniki, Greece) made six saves in his collegiate debut during the Bobcats' season opener. Iakovidis made two impressive full-extension diving saves in the first half – from Boston College's Isaac Normesinu and Maximilian Schulze-Geisthovel – to keep things knotted 0-0 at the time.
FRESHMAN PHENOM
Freshman Eamon Whelan (New Fairfield, Connecticut) registered his first collegiate career goal for the Bobcats vs. Louisville, attempting a team-high three shots on the night. Whelan scored Quinnipiac's first goal of the 2016 season at 50:58 to tie the game 1-1. The freshman gathered a loose ball from eight yards out, then touched it past Louisville goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland to put the Bobcats' on the board.
SECOND-HALF SUCCESS
The Bobcats controlled possession much more in the final 45 minutes of the contest for the second-straight game. The Bobcats registered 5-of-6 shots in the second half of its home opener vs. No. 11 Boston College, then 4-of-5 shots against Louisville came in the second half on Monday. Max Rothenbuecher (Munich, Germany) and Matthew Taylor (Dublin, Ireland) each had a shot on goal in the loss.
BACK ON THE ATTACK
The Bobcats return four of their top five scorers in 2016. Sophomore Matthew Taylor (Dublin, Ireland) had two goals and three assists in 2015, Rothenbuecher recorded two goals and one assist, senior Ryan Scheiderman (Brick, New Jersey) had two scores and an assist and Dally had one goal and two assists.
VETERAN REINFORCEMENTS
Doig and junior Shaquille Huggins also bring plenty of collegiate experience to the Bobcats 2016 roster. Doig started in 38 games during his first two seasons at Quinnipiac, scoring twice with nine assists in that span. He suffered a season-ending injury during the third game of the 2015 year. Huggins has played in 35 contests through his first two seasons.
DALLY EARNS SPOT ON JAMAICA U20 TEAM
Forward Rashawn Dally (Bloomfield, CT) earned some impressive international experience this summer, nabbing a spot on the Jamaican National Under-20 Team. Dally joined Jamaica for the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) U-20 Qualifiers in June. Jamaica went 2-1 in qualifiers with wins over host Dominican Republic and Dominica.
QUINNIPIAC PICKED SEVENTH IN MAAC

Quinnipiac received 51 points in the poll, putting it in between Marist in sixth place with 57 points and Canisius in eighth place with 47. Monmouth was selected as the favorite (120 points), while Rider (103 points) finished No. 2.
