
QU Men's Basketball Visits The Arc of Meriden-Wallingford

HAMDEN, Conn. - Members of the Quinnipiac men's basketball team paid a visit to The Arc of Meriden-Wallingford on Wednesday morning to speak to a group of 30 people about their personal experiences and dream jobs.
The visit was coordinated by Assistant Coach Sean Doherty and Kelly Dorsey, Self-Advocate Coordinator and Ways & Means Chairperson for The Arc of Meriden-Wallingford.
"I'm majoring in sociology, and so much of sociology is getting out and being involved with people," said senior forward Alain Chigha. "As I told the audience, my dream job is to travel around the world and help people understand that there are better opportunities for themselves, and to help people who feel left out move their lives in a more positive direction."
"My mom is in a rehab center in Maryland, and I know it always brightens her day when my brother and I come home to see her," said sophomore guard Andrew Robinson. "So it means a lot to me to be able to get out and meet people with disabilities, and I'm grateful for the opportunity that Coach Doherty offered me to speak today."
The Arc of Meriden-Wallingford, Inc. is a membership agency that provides comprehensive, full-service, community-based opportunities for people with disabilities. The Arc of Meriden-Wallingford offers advocacy and assistance to our members along with advocating for the rights and choices of people with disabilities in our community.
As one of the larger private providers in the State of Connecticut, the Arc has an array of services including: employment options, school to work transition, day service opportunities, individualized services, residential alternatives, in home residential supports for adults and children an after school program, recreation program and a self-advocacy group. The Arc of Meriden-Wallingford's vision is to meet the self-directed goals of each individual served.
"I want to thank Kelly Dorsey and the people at The Arc of Meriden-Wallingford for giving us the opportunity to try and positively impact our community," said Head Coach Tom Moore. "Coach Sean Doherty, Alain Chigha, and Andrew Robinson did a great job volunteering their time and effort for this cause."

"They were wonderful young men who truly inspired our group with their stories. We like to dedicate inspirational quotes to people who cone to visit us, and our group chose one from Dr. Seuss for the Bobcats: 'Today you are you! That is truer than true! There's no one alive, who is youer than you.'"
