Quinnipiac field hockey earned two NCAA Statistical Championships this season as the Bobcats led all NCAA Division I programs in defensive saves, while junior Angie King (South Windsor, Conn.) tallied a national-best 13 defensives saves for the year.
The Bobcats recorded 23 defensive saves for the year and led second-place Indiana by six for the season. In 20 games this year, Quinnipiac posted multiple defensive saves in six games including two against two-time NCAA National Champion UConn on Sept. 4. The Bobcats followed with two more in a 2-1 win against and also recorded a season-high of three on three different occasions – in a 3-2 loss to Michigan State, a 4-1 loss to Maine and a 2-1 win against Holy Cross.
King was the Bobcats' defensive leader for the second straight season while she also captures the National Statistical Championship for the first in her career. King recorded 13 for the year, highlighted by a streak of seven-consecutive games which started on Aug. 30 against Boston College and ran through the Bobcats' win against Holy Cross on Sept. 22. In 2014, King recorded five defensive saves, which ranked ninth nationally. Most impressive of King's defensive saves total is that it was more than the 73 NCAA Division I teams compiled as a squad.
In addition to King, Lauren Belskie (Hillsborough, New Jersey) recorded six defensive saves for the year, which was good for eighth among all NCAA Division I field hockey players. Lily Shemo (Luzerne, Pennsylvania) recorded two defensive saves, while Meghan McCullough (Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania) and Megan Osanitsch (Harwinton, Connecticut) stopped one each.
