QU Men's Tennis downs UConn, 5-2

STORRS, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac men's tennis team celebrated its third dual win of the season as the Bobcats were able to beat UConn, downing the Huskies 5-2, on Sunday afternoon.
The Bobcats closed the fall dual season in strong fashion, as they were able to hand the Huskies their first loss of the season. WIth the win, Quinnipiac improves to 3-0 (2-0 MAAC), while UConn drops to 1-1 (0-0 AAC).
The day began in the No. 2 doubles competition, where the freshmen duo of Austin Yannone (Severna Park, Maryland) and Axel Stern (Tustin, California) took on Hank Hill and Justin Warren. The Bobcat duo was able to beat the Husky pair 6-2. Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California) and Freddie Zaretsky (Fair Lawn, New Jersey) were then able to beat Christopher Toner and Arnaud Valentin, 7-5. Quinnipiac finished the doubles events strong when Ryoma Haraguchi (New York, New York) and Julian Rozenstein (Marlboro, New Jersey) defeated Parker Goldstein and Jacob Appleton, 6-3, giving the Bobcats the 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point.
The singles competition got underway when Zaretsky fell to Toner in the No. 1 singles match 6-0 and 6-2 in straight sets. Stern followed with a win of his own by beating Warren 6-2 in straight sets, giving the Bobcats a 2-1 lead. Yannone gave the the Bobcats a 3-1 lead, defeating Valentin 6-2 in straight sets.
The Huskies then cut the Bobcats lead to one, as Jonathan Edwards battled Haraguchi and defeated him, 6-1 and 6-3 in straight sets. Patrick Cachapero (Loma Linda, California) got Quinnipiac back on track when he beat Appleton 6-4 in straight sets, giving the Bobcats 4-2 lead and essentially clinching a Quinnipiac win.
Rozenstein ended the day with a win for the Bobcats by defeating Goldstein 6-3 and 7-5 in straight sets, giving Quinnipiac a 5-2 win.
The win over UConn ends the Bobcats fall dual season, so Quinnipiac will now prepare for the ITA Regionals, held at the University of Pennsylvania from Wednesday, Oct. 19 to Sunday, Oct. 23.
