QU Baseball Drops Both Games of 2016 City Series

WEST HAVEN, Connecticut – Quinnipiac baseball fell in both of its games in the 2016 City Series on Friday, Oct 14 and Saturday, Oct. 15 at Yale Field. The Bobcats lost to Southern Connecticut State University on Friday, then lost to Yale in the consolation game on Saturday.
Quinnipiac lost to SCSU in its opener by the final score of 7-2. The Bobcats' first run came off a passed ball, then Joseph Burns (Shelton, CT) belted a line-drive double to drive in Ryan Nelson (Knoxville, CT) in the sixth inning. SCSU's Mike DeMartino homered and Tyler Criscuolo hit a two-run double in the bottom half of the sixth. Alex Vargas (New York, NY) was the losing pitcher.
Yale scored runs in the second, sixth and seventh innings of the consolation game on Saturday. Quinnipiac's Matthew Batten (Shelton, CT) and Brian Moskey (Higganum, CT) each recorded to hits in the loss, while Nelson and Burns each reached base with a walk.
Robert Hitt (Suffield, CT) went 6.0 innings in his start for the Bobcats, giving up four hits and two runs while striking out seven. Mike Dellamedaglia pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen. Yale's Eric Brodkowitz struck out 10 batters in six scoreless innings to earn the win.
Last year, Quinnipiac topped New Haven in the first round of the City Series before falling in the championship to SCSU. The Bobcats lost in the championship game of the City Series in 2014, as well.
