WEST POINT, New York – The Quinnipiac men's tennis team picked up two singles victories from Julian Rozenstein (Marlboro, New Jersey) and Luke Roser (Bernardsville, New Jersey) but came up just short against the Army Black Knights, 5-2, Saturday morning at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
Army improved its record to .500 this season at 3-3 with the victory while the Bobcats dropped its second straight match and are now 3-2.
Rozenstein and Roser each played well in their No. 4 and No. 5 singles matches, respectively, to pick up their first singles victories of the spring season. For Roser, it is his second overall victory of the spring after winning in doubles at Brown last week.\
Rozenstein picked up the victory in No. 4 singles over Austin McCasin, as Rozenstein avenged his doubles match loss to McCasin. Rozenstein won in straight sets over McCasin; 6-3, 6-4. The win is Rozenstein's 24th of his freshman season and 11th in singles.
Roser's victory was his second of the spring as he competed only in singles play against Army, taking down Michael Nguyen in straight sets; 6-1, 6-4, to pick up his 65th career victory.
The Black Knights took the other four singles points against the Bobcats to secure the match victory. Army's No. 1 Sam Lampman took on Quinnipiac's No. 1 Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California) and the Black Knight won; 6-3, 6-1. In No. 2 singles, Grant Riechmann defeated Jonas Kuwert (Jesteberg, Germany) in a close match; 6-4, 6-3. The No. 3 singles match saw Quinnipiac's Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, New York) come back from down a set to tie the match with Caison Best, but Best was able to take the third set and the match; 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. Willem van Biezen (Warmond, The Netherlands) faced off with Michael Sienko in his first singles action of the spring but fell to Sienko for the loss; 6-1, 6-4.
Army took all three doubles matches against Quinnipiac to take the doubles point. Lampman and Alex Van Velzer competed in No. 1 doubles against Ezaka and Kuwert in the most highly contested doubles match, but the Black Knights took the match, 8-5, for their 13th doubles victory of the season. Kyle Barnes and McCasin picked up their 10th doubles victory of the season as they knocked off Ambrosio and Rozenstein, 8-4. The No. 3 doubles match featured Kyle Alper (Dix Hills, New York) and Carlos Fernandez (Mexico City, Mexico) in their first doubles action of the season as they lost to Harrison McCormick and Riechmann, 8-3.
The Bobcats return to action next Sunday for the first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match of the season when they face the Saint Peter's Peacocks at the SPU Tennis Courts in Jersey City, New Jersey at 2 P.M.
