Quinnipiac University was named as one of USA Today's Top 10 College's for Men's Ice Hockey. The article, by David Klenda, highlights Bobcats' head coach Rand Pecknold and the program's growth to a perennial NCAA power.
Pecknold, now in his 21st season as the Bobcats' head coach, has led Quinnipiac to the last two NCAA Tournaments. In 2012-13, the Bobcats won its first NCAA Tournament game and advanced to its first NCAA Frozen Four before finishing as the NCAA National Championship Runner-up.
The Bobcats have seem meteoric growth in their program under Pecknold's guidance, as they have been nationally ranked in all national polls for the last 10 years. The Bobcats, most notably, were the No. 1 team in college hockey for the final two months of the 2012-13 season and held the top seed in that year's tournament.
Earlier this year, Pecknold became the sixth active head coach, and 34th all-time, to win 400 games, when Quinnipiac defeated UMass on Nov. 29. To date, he is currently 406-254-73. This season, Quinnipiac is 15-6-1 including a 10-2-0 mark in ECAC Hockey play - good for first place in the league standings.
