
Strong Second Half Sends Women's Basketball Past Saint Peter's on Senior Day, 67-44

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University women's basketball team honored its senior class the best way possible on Saturday afternoon, as the Bobcats defeated Saint Peter's University, 67-44, on Senior Day at the TD Bank Sports Center. Brittany McQuain (Independence, Mo.), Ellen Cannon (West Chester, Pa.) and Camryn Warner (Keene, N.H.) all were honored prior to the game.
With the win, Quinnipiac improved to 18-10 overall and 13-5 in conference play – maintaining its stranglehold on fourth place. Saint Peter's, who entered the game at the bottom of the league standings, fell to 3-24 overall and 2-16 against MAAC competition.
Gillian Abshire (Washington, D.C.) finished with four points, four rebounds, four steals, and nine assists. Adily Martucci (Waterford, Conn.) added 10 points while Camryn Warner (Keene, N.H.) and Ellen Cannon chipped in with 10 and three points respectively.
Both teams started out slow with neither team getting on the board until there was 15:28 left in the first half. Abshire made it 1-0 with a free throw. Quinnipiac would go on a 14-7 run over the next six minutes but Saint Peter's would go on a 12-0 run to take a 19-14 lead. Following a Martin layup Saint Peter's finished the half on 9-5 run to take a 28-21 lead into the locker rooms.
Saint Peter's outshot Quinnipiac 35.5 percent to 23.5 percent in the first half as they took the lead. The rebounds were even at 24 in the first half.
Quinnipiac shot 56.7 percent (17-of-30) in the second half and held Saint Peter's to 21.7 percent shooting (5-of-23). The Bobcats outrebounded the Peacocks 23-12 in the second half.
Quinnipiac will host their final game of the 2013-14 season at the TD Bank Sports Center on Thursday night at 6:00 pm. The Bobcats will take on Iona live on ESPN3.com.
