
QU Women's Golf's Nicole Scola In 1st Place Through Quinnipiac Classic's First Day

Quinnipiac women's golf sophomore Nicole Scola led the field of 32 student-athletes at the Fourth Annual Quinnipiac Women's Golf Classic at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn. Quinnipiac finished the first day in fourth place out of six competing teams.

Scola turned in her second-best 18-hole score of the season, finishing with a 73 (+3) after the first round of Quinnipiac's 36-hole tournament. Scola led by two strokes over Hartford's Brooke Nethercott and Fairfield's Olivia Brooks. Scola was also one of seven players in the 32 player field to card a score lower than 80. She also led the field in par 4 scoring (4.08) as well as pars (14). Scola parred eight of the first nine holes she played before a double bogey on Hole 13 and a bogey on 18, with a birdie on 15 put her at three-over.
Emily Ribbins (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) finished tied for 13th place with an 84 (+14). Ribbins bogeyed her first hole of the day before recording back-to-back birdies on holes No. 6 and 7. Ribbins was one of five players in the 32-player field to record two birdies on the first day - including teammate Jenn Whaley (Farmington, Connecticut).
Alexa Gentile (Avon, Connecticut) finished tied for 20th with an 88 (+18) followed by Whaley in 22nd place with a 90 (+20).
The second round of the two-day tournament resumes from TPC River Highlands on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 9 a.m. Quinnipiac will pair of Delaware State and the Quinnipiac "B" team, while Fairfield, Albany and Hartford will pair up.
