Women's Tennis Gears Up for 2014 Season

HAMDEN, Conn. – After a few months off from competition, the Quinnipiac University tennis team returns to the courts for the bulk of its 2013-14 schedule. The Bobcats will play over 20 matches during the next four months, culminating with the 2014 MAAC Championships in the last weekend of April.
"We are very excited to resume competition in preparation for the conference tournament," said head coach Mike Quitko, who is in his 23rd season at the helm of the program. "We took full advantage of our few months off and we are well-rested for the upcoming spring season. The MAAC presents a new and different challenge for our team, and we are looking forward to the opportunity."
Quinnipiac's slate features matches against 13 non-conference opponents and seven against MAAC institutions. Eight of those contests will be played on Mount Carmel Campus at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
The Bobcats' spring schedule opens on Sunday, Jan. 26 with a match against Brown University at the Pizzitola Center in Providence, R.I. Quinnipiac runs off a series of seven straight non-conference matches – Boston University (1/31); Saint Joseph's (2/21); Delaware (2/22); Army (3/1) – concluding with three more in the team's annual trip to Florida. The Bobcats will take on South Dakota St. (3/10), Creighton (3/11) and Navy (3/12) during its road swing in the Sunshine State.
After that, the month of March concludes with two conference and two non-conference matches. The Bobcats take on Fairfield (3/19), Bryant 3/22), Seton Hall (3/23) and Siena (3/29) - with their match against Bryant taking place at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
The final eight matches occur in April, where five of them will determine Quinnipiac's seed in the MAAC Championships. Quinnipiac opens the month with three non-conference matches – Massachusetts (4/2, 3 PM), Hartford (4/2, 6:30 PM) and Sacred Heart (4/4) – and closes the month with five conference matches – Saint Peter's (4/5), Marist (4/9), Niagara (4/12), Manhattan (4/15) and Monmouth (4/17). All of April's matches will be played in Hamden except for the team's tilt with Manhattan.
The 2014 MAAC Championships are scheduled from Friday, April 25 through Sunday, April 27 at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J. The top four teams at the end of the regular season will receive bids into the single-elimination tournament.
