2012 Lehigh Paul Short Women's Gold 6k Results
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Quinnipiac women's cross country team placed 18th at the 39th annual Lehigh Paul Short Run on Friday morning. The Bobcats competed against 39 collegiate teams in the Women's Gold 6k Race and finished with a total of 593 points, while Cornell University won the meet with 55 points. Senior Becca White (Natick, Mass.) led the Bobcat contingent with a 74th-place finish and a time of 21:50.
"We all competed today and I think the race went pretty well overall," Quinnipiac women's cross country head coach Carolyn Martin said. "The girls are really making an effort to pack up into groups during the race which has paid off in the past. In a race like this with around 350 competitors it really helps to stay together and it paid off today."
The 18th-place team finish is seven spots higher than the 2011 Lehigh Paul Short Run result for the Bobcats and the total time this year of 1:51:39 was nearly two minutes faster than Quinnipiac's result last year, 1:53:14. Quinnipiac also finished several spots ahead of regional powers Delaware, St. Joseph's, and Maryland, all of which are ranked No. 11, 12, and 14, respectively in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Mid-Atlantic Regional Women's Cross Country Rankings.
Junior Jessica Soja (Simsbury, Conn.) continues her breakout season with a 103rd-place finish and time of 22:10, besting her 2011 Lehigh Paul Short Run result of 24:46. The next three finishers for Quinnipiac executed Coach Martin's plan for packed running well as they all finished within five seconds of one another. Junior Amanda Faust (Macungie, Pa.) crossed the finish line in 22:31, good for 135th-place, while freshman Chelsea Savage (Pembroke, Mass.) finished fourth for the Bobcats in 22:33, her highest team finish of the season. Junior Brianna Faust (Macungie, Pa.) rounded out the trio for Quinnipiac with a 143rd-place finish and a time of 22:36.
The Bobcats are now in line for the New England Championships at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass. on Sunday, Oct. 7. The women's sub varsity race will begin at 12 p.m. and varsity opens at 1:30 p.m.
