HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team lost to American International, 2-1, in a non-conference match-up at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center. With the loss, Quinnipiac drops to 3-3-1 overall while AIC goes to 3-4-1 on the season.
Mike Dalhuisen (Nymegen, Holland) scored Quinnipiac's only goal with assists going to Ben Arnt (Oakdale, Minn.) and Jordan Samuels-Thomas (South Windsord, Conn.). Freshman goalie Michael Garteig (Prince George, British Columbia) had 16 saves in the loss. AIC's Brad Meisner stopped 39 of Quinnipiac's 40 shots on goal in the win.
AIC's Chris Porter put the Yellow Jackets on top with his second goal of the year. Quinnipiac took control of the puck deep in their own defensive zone, but Nathan Sliwinski got his stick on a pass between two Bobcats and sent the puck over to Alexander MacMillan in the face-off circle to the left of the Bobcats' goal. Porter followed the pass between the face-off circles where MacMillan dropped a pass onto the freshman's tape. Porter flipped a shot on goal that Garteig kicked away but Porter was able to pick up the rebound and slide a shot around Garteig to give AIC a one-goal lead less than seven minutes into the second period.
With less then seven minutes to play, Arnt won a draw in the Yellow Jackets' defensive zone, sending the puck to his right to Samuels-Thomas. Samuels-Thomas touch-passed the puck back to Dalhuisen at the point who one-timed a shot on goal. With Samuels-Thomas screening AIC's Brad Meisner, Dalhuisen's shot found the post above Meisner's left shoulder and rattled home to cut AIC's lead in half, 2-1.
