
Women's Basketball Defeats Mount St. Mary's, 74-60

HAMDEN,
Conn. - The Quinnipiac University women's basketball team won its
third-straight Northeast Conference match-up of the season, as it
beat Mount St. Mary's, 74-60, at the Knott Arena on Saturday
afternoon. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 9-9 overall and 6-1
in conference play, while the Mountaineers fall to 4-14 on the year
and 1-6 in the NEC.
Three different Bobcats finished in double figures, led by
sophomore Felicia
Barron (Springfield, Mass.) with a game-high 25 points and
seven assists, as well as three steals in the contest. In addition,
Freshman Brittany
McQuain (Independence, Mo.) compiled 12 points and six
rebounds, while junior Jacinda
Dunbar (Edison, N.J.) recorded 11 points and five rebounds.
Three Mountaineers also posted double figures, including Mary Dunn
with 12 points, Kayla Grossett, with 10 points, and Ashley
Christie, with a team-high 15 points.
For the first time this season, the Bobcats shot 50 percent from
the floor, including 13-of-19 from three-point range for 68.4
percent. The Bobcats outrebounded the Mountaineers, 42-33 and
compiled 21 fast-break points in the win.
Barron scored 17 of her 25 points in the first half, knocking down
all five three-point attempts in the first frame. Quinnipiac took
control of the game with a 9-0 run over the first five minutes of
the game. The Bobcats went on a 20-4 run heading into halftime,
pushing their lead to 23 points, 36-13, with 4:39 to play. The
team held a 21-point advantage, 43-21, heading into the second
half.
McQuain led the Bobcats in the second half, totaling 10 points and
grabbing five rebounds. Quinnipiac held the lead for the entire
contest for the second-straight game, pushing their lead to as many
as 28 points in the second half.
The Bobcats travel to Staten Island, N.Y. on Monday, Jan. 24 to
face Wagner at 7:00 p.m. at the Spiro Sports Center.
