Quinnipiac baseball junior Neil Mammele (Madison, Conn.) will participate in Swim Across America's Long Island Sound Swim on Saturday, July 24. The one-mile swim is a yearly fundraiser to benefit breast cancer research and treatment.
Mammele will be swimming as a member of "Team Joan", named after his grandmother who passed from breast cancer in 1979. Mammele also participated in the swim in 2005.
This past season,
Mammele appeared in five games, hurling 7.1 innings. The
second-year pitcher gave up three runs on five hits in that span
for a 2.45 earned-run average. Mammele was a 2010 Northeast
Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll selection while also being
named to the Quinnipiac Dean's List.
