Bobcats Conclude 2010 Season Saturday
The Quinnipiac University men's lacrosse team concludes
the 2010 season Saturday, when it plays host to intrastate ECAC foe
Fairfield on Senior Day. At stake is third place positioning in the
ECAC, as the Bobcats are currently a game back of the Stags and a
win would give QU the tiebreaker. The Bobcats are coming off a
tough, 7-6, loss to Bryant last Saturday, while the Stags fell at
No. 3 Maryland, 17-4.
Scouting the Fairfield Stags
Fairfield is led by Sam Snow, whose 27 points lead the
Stags. Max Trunz has taken the assists lead with 13, while Brent
Adams has a team-best 16 goals. Steve Golmont has taken the
majority of the face-offs for the Stags, winning exactly 50 percent
(102-204). Drew Palmer leads the Stags' defense with 18 caused
turnovers and 39 ground balls. Joseph Marra has been fantastic in
net for Fairfield, with a 7.64 goals-against average (4th-NCAA) and
.608 save percentage (2nd-NCAA).
Senior Send-off
Prior to Saturday's game, the Bobcats will honor their
15-member senior class. Ted Dimond, Jimmy Gianfelice, Crandon
Leahy, Garett Kerr, Ben Mullaney, Jamie Prudden, Drew Falkenhan,
Zach Dendas, Mitch Cooper, Alex DeAlmeida, Bailey Tuthill, Alex
Marotto, Todd Kaiser, Matt Baker and Mike Bucchino will be honored
prior to their final game at Quinnipiac.
20/20
With seven goals and an assist last week, Christian
Haggerty reached 20 goals and 23 assists for the season, becoming
just the fourth player in Quinnipiac history to compile a 20-20
year. Haggerty joined Joe Baglio (49 G, 29 A in 2001) as the only
other Quinnipiac player with a 20-20 season at Division I, while
Brian Perry (33 G, 25 A in 1998) and P.J. Gillard (24 G, 21 A in
1995) achieved the feat at the Division II level.
Oppenheimer Climbs Quinnipiac Career Goals List
With a goal May 1 against Bryant, Jack Oppenheimer pushed
his career total to 55, good for 13th in Quinnipiac history.

The Bobcats ranked sixth in the nation in caused turnovers
per game, entering the week averaging 10.31 per game.

6.25 ground balls per game.

straight games for the Bobcats, April 17-27. He started the streak
with three goals at Holy Cross, before scoring six times against
Bellarmine and three more at Sacred Heart.
Well-Grounded Man
With 75 ground balls so far this season, Zach Pall ranks
third all-time on the Quinnipiac single-season ground balls list.

in 2001. He ranked 14th in the nation to begin the week at 1.77
assists per game.
Oppenheimer Goals: The Right Way To Score
With 30 goals this season, Jack Oppenheimer leads the
Bobcats and has moved into 12th all-time on the Quinnipiac
single-season chart. Oppenheimer led the Bobcats in both points
(26) and goals (20) in 2009.
Benz, But Don't Break
Senior goalie Kevin Benzing has been his typical steady
self in net for the Bobcats this season, maintaining an 8.69
goals-against average and a .552 save percentage while posting a
7-6 record. His save percentage ranked 19th nationally to begin the
week, while his goals-against average was 17th.

After defeating Bellarmine by one goal in three of four
wins in the all-time series prior to their April 24 pairing with
the Knights, Quinnipiac left no doubt in a 20-7 victory. Jack
Oppenheimer led the way with six goals, second-most in Quinnipiac
single-game history, while Christian Haggerty dished out five
assists.
Kaiser Creeps Up Quinnipiac Scoring List

Todd Kaiser moved into a tie for 16th on the QU All-Time scoring
list.
Gettin' After Ground Balls
The Bobcats won a decisive victory in the ground-ball game
at Air Force, April 9, scooping up 34 to the Falcons' 15.
Simply the Best
For his 21-save effort at Hobart on March 20, Kevin
Benzing was named the ECAC Lacrosse and Northeast Conference
Defensive Player of the Week. The 21 saves were the most in the
nation in a single game during that week, and a career high for the
senior goalie.
Marotto Makes His Mark
Alex Marotto scored three goals, all in the decisive
second half, March 20 at Hobart. Marotto tied the game at 4-4,
before later adding insurance goals to push the Bobcats' lead to
7-4 and 9-7.

Wagner. Zach Pall led the way, going a perfect 7-for-7, while Derek
Flynn (8-for-10) and Jay Binkowski (7-for-9) were also extremely
efficient.

stopped 16 of the 27 shots he faced on the day.
30
'Cats Back
