Stu Grove, the 1967 College Player of the Year in Connecticut, was a recipient of the Steich Award for Excellence, the highest award at Quinnipiac for athletics and scholarship. Grove served as the head basketball coach at New Haven from 1980–95 where he earned Kodak, UPI, New England and NECC Coach of the Year honors. He led his teams to NECC crowns from 1985–88, a No. 1 ranking in the East from 1986–92 and NCAA regionals from 1986–88. In addition to teaching and coaching at the collegiate level, Grove was a coach at the first Division II YES clinic in 1993 and served as the director of the Special Olympics for Sports Park Basketball in 1996.
