- Induction:

- Class:
- 1987
Richard Ciardiello, a right wing on the men's ice hockey team, helped develop Quinnipiac's program into the distinguished team it is today. Arriving at Quinnipiac in 1983 as an All-State hockey player from perennial state power Hamden High School, Ciardiello gave the Quinnipiac program a much needed boost and instant credibility. His presence on the team made an immediate impact in his freshman year as he became the first Quinnipiac player to earn All ECAC honors. As a senior in 1986–87, he led the hockey team to a 22–7–1 record and the ECAC finals. In so doing, he was named ECAC Player of the Year, registering 55 points on 34 assists and 11 goals. By the time he graduated in 1987, he had amassed many impressive statistics, including his status as Quinnipiac’s third all-time leading scorer, fifth leading career goal scorer and second all-time in assists. Ciardiello is still Quinnipiac’s fourth all-time assist leader with 97 assists, fifth in career scoring with 158 points and Quinnipiac’s seventh all-time goal scorer with 61 goals. His senior year statistics of 34 assists leave him tied for third all-time for single season assists registered and his 55 points that year still rank fourth all time for points during a season at Quinnipiac.
