Giacomini, Gunes Earn MAAC Awards For Second Straight Week

HAMDEN, Conn. – Graduate student Elena Giacomini was named the MAAC Player of the Week and Damla Gunes was named the MAAC Setter of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, November 5th.
Elena Giacomini was awarded Player of the Week honors after accumulating 63 total kills in three matches last week for the Bobcats, as she recorded double doubles in all three matches. In the three-set win at Merrimack on Wednesday, Giacomini registered 14 kills, 13 digs, and four total blocks. To kick off the weekend, Giacomini recorded 18 kills and 11 digs in the loss to Sacred Heart. To wrap up the weekend, Giacomini exploded for 31 kills, a season-high, and 15 digs in the thrilling five-set victory over the Fairfield Stags. Giacomini finished the weekend, averaging 5.20 kills per set, 3.25 digs per set, and 6.25 points per set.
Junior Damla Gunes was rewarded for her stellar play over the past week with MAAC Setter of the Week honors. Gunes recorded a total of 128 assists in the three matches for Quinnipiac as she helped the Bobcats to a 2-1 record last week. In the win over Merrimack, Gunes registered 35 assists, four digs, one total blocks, and one ace. In the loss at Sacred Heart, Gunes added 35 assists with three digs and two aces. To close out the weeked, Damla Gunes helped lead the Bobcats past the Stags with 58 assists, seven digs, three aces, and two kills.
Quinnipiac currently sits in second place in the MAAC with a 11-3 conference mark and a 14-12 overall record this season. The Bobcats will be back in action on Saturday as the host the Siena Saints at 1 PM.
